To all whom, it may concern:

Be it known that I, SAMUEL ARTHUR N1011- OLS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Tables, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to a table whose top may be extended by inserting a new leaf therein; and the object thereof is to provide a table of simple construction that can be readily changed to a table with anextended or enlarged top. I accomplish this object by means of the table described herein and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a plan of my table with the top not extended. Fig. 2 is a plan of my table with the top extended and with the extensionleaf in place and partly broken away. Fig. 3 is an end elevation of my improved table as shown in Fig. 2.

In the drawings, 4 is the central pillar or pedestal of the table, to which is rigidly secured the pedestal-top 5, which pedestal-top is preferably oval in shape, as shown in Fig. 2, and slightly smaller than. the table-top 6 when not extended. The top of the table when not in its extended form is preferably composed of two semi-elliptical leaves 6 and 6, to the under side of which are rigidly secured two attaching-arms 7 and 8, which project at an angle to the meeting faces of the leaves and a little to one side of the center line thereof, as best shown in full and dotted lines in Fig. 2. The inner ends of these supporting-arms are pivotally secured by pivots 9 and 10 to the pedestal-top at points equidistant from the center of the pedestal and at points on opposite sides of the center line of the pedestal, as best shown in Fig. 2, the cen tral point of the pedestal being indicated by the dot marked 11. When it is desired to have the top extended, the leaves are turned to a position at right angles to the position occupied when the top is not extended, as shown in Fig. 2, and an additional or temporary leaf 12 is inserted between the leaves 6 and 6 and rests upon the arms 7 and 8 and upon supporting- lugs 13 and 14, attached to the under side of the leaves 6 and 6. Supporting-pins 15, of which there are preferably four, as shown in Fig. 2 in dotted lines, are secured in the pedestal-top and prevent the leaves 6 and 6 from tipping.

By this construction an extension-top table is provided, which can be quickly changed from a smallto a large top table, or vice versa, thereby enabling the table to be used as a center table or as a dining-table, as desired.

I have described and illustrated my table as a pedestal-table but, if desired, legs of any desired number and shape may be used and the legs secured to a frame which performs the same function as the pedestal-top.

Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A table having a pedestal provided with a top; two leaves pivotally secured to the pedestal-top at points equidistant from and at points opposite of and at the side of the center line of the top of the pedestal, said leaves being adapted to be swun away from each other; and a temporary lea adapted to be inserted between said swinging leaves.

2. A table having a pedestal provided with a top; supporting-pins secured in said pedestal-top; two arms pivotally secured to the pedestal top at points equidistant from and at points opposite of and at the side of the center line of the top of the pedestal; two leaves rigidly secured to said arms, said leaves being adapted to be swung away from each other; supporting-lugs secured to said leaves and a temporary leaf adapted to be inserted between said swinging leaves.

3. A table provided with a frame and legs secured thereto; two swinging leaves pivotally secured to the top of the frame eccentric to the center thereof and an auxiliary leaf adapted to be inserted between the swinging leaves when extended.

4. An extension-table of the character herein described comprising a table having a divided top pivotally attached thereto by means of extension-arms, said arms pivoted at points eccentric to the center of the table and adapted to be swung away from each other so as to provide an opening for the insertion of a temporary leaf; and a temporary leaf.
