TABLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 265,369, dated October 3, 1882.
' Application filed May 52, 1882. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARLEY A. BARNHART, of Hallsville, in the county of Ross and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Irnprovement in Tables, of which the followingis a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to construct an extension-table by the combination of two separate tables in such manner that the two tables can be used separately or combined together, as may be desired. To that end I provide separate tables with swinging legs and slides, as hereinafter described and claimed.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, Forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure l is an inverted plan view of one end of the improved extension-table. Fig. 2 is an inverted plan view of due of the separate tables. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the table.
A is a table, of convenient size, provided on one side with a hinged leaf, a, and provided at its under side with a triangular frame of bars, I), at the corners of which are fixed legs 0. Two corners of this table are cut off and hinged to form triangular leaves cZ,-whi-ch, when turned up, are sustained by the hinged arms .0, so as to form a table of rectangular form, and
by turning these leaves d down the tableA is adapted for use as a corner table;
ff are rails hinged to the outer bar, b, and provided at their outer ends with legs g, which rails, when turned outward, support the hinged leaf (1, and will be turned inward against the bar I) when the leaf is to be turned down.
To the hinged rails f slides h h are connected by clasps i, of suitable form, which clasps engage grooves in the rails f, so that the slides It may be moved endwise, and upon the slides hare fitted other slides, 70. These slides in h are intended to be drawn out to support the movable leaves of the extension-table, and when not required for use are to be pushed inward upon the hinged railf, so as not to interfere with the use of the table A.
To form the extension-table, two tables A will be used, and their leaves a raised, the hinged 'railsfand their legs 9 swung out to support them, and slides It h drawn out. At the ends of the slides 70 of the respective tables hooks l l are provided for connection to eyes upon adjacent slides, so that when the tables are placed end to end in this manner a continuous support is formed for the removablelea-ves B, any suitable number of which may be used, according to the length of table desired.
It will be readily seen that this construction allows the setting up of an extension-table of considerable length with great facility, and that when the necessity for such a table has ceased the leaves B may be removed, the slides pushed in, and the two tables used separately, as may be desired.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The table A, provided with legs 0, hinged corner-leaves d d, hinged side leat', a, hinged rails ff, and swinging legs g, substantially'as shown and described.
2. The combination of the slides k h with the hinged railsfand legs g of the table A, substantially as shown and described.
3. The combination of two tables, A, hinged railsf, slideshlc, hooks Z l, and removable leaves B, substantially as described, to form an extension-table convertible at will into two separate tables, as set forth.
