Description
PATENTED APR. 17, 1906.
A. THOLLANDER.
SORUBBER 0R BRUSH. APPLIOATION FILED MABBO, 1905.
UNITED STATES PATENT ()EETCE.
SCHUBBER OR BRUSH.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 17, 1906.
Application filed March 30, 1905. Serial No. 252,833.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, AXEL THOLLANDER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicage, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Scrubbers or Brushes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to scrubbers or brushes, and is particularly illustrated and described in connection with a windowcleaner, embracing improvements with respect to the construction of the cleaner and also with respect to the handle and the means to attach the same.
With respect to the handle attachment a ball-and-socket joint is provided which has means to insure its rigidity when desired, while permitting adjustment to vary the angle at which the cleaner is presented.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view, partly in section, of the cleaner. Fi 2 is a side view with parts in section. Fig. 3 is a plan view showing the ball of the ball-and-socket joint. Fig. 4 is a sectional view showing one of the socket-arn1s which connect the ball to the head of the scrubber.
Referring specifically to the drawings, 6 in dicates one metal strip, and 7 another metal strip, between which the rubber strips 8 of the scrubber are clamped by means of bolts 9. The strip 6 has at the rear edge thereof a flange 10, which extends over the space between the strips and serves as an abutment for the rear edges of the other strips.
A socket-piece to receive the handle of the device is indicated at 11, and this has at the front end a ball 12, which is provided with several pointed lugs or projections 13. 14
indicates arms secured to the scrubber-head by the bolts 9 and terminating at the rear end in sockets 15, made to fit on opposite sides of the ball 12 to form a ball-and-socket joint, which turns on a pivot-bolt 16, extend ing through the parts. The pivot-bolt is provided with a wing-nut 17, so that it may be loosened when desired. The projections 13 are arranged to fit in notches 18, formed in the sockets 15, to hold the parts at the desired angle or adjustment. \Vhen the nut 17 is loosened, the arms 14 may be sprung apart far enough to allow the projections 13 to pass from one notch to another, and so vary the angle of the scrubber-head with respect to the handle as desired, after which the parts are fixed at adjustment by tightening the nut 17. The fit of the lugs 13 in the notches 18 prevents any unintentional or accidental slip at the joint.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A handle-fastening for scrubbers and the like, comprising a socket-piece having a globular head with projecting lugs thereon, arms secured to opposite ends of the scrubber and converging to said head and having concave sockets fitting opposite sides thereof and notches in said sockets to receive the lugs, and a pivot-bolt extending through the sockets and the head.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
AXEL THOLLANDER.
