SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 729,581, dated June 2, 1903. Application filed October 10,1902. $erial No. 126,685. (No model.)

Be it known that I, AUGUST S. HELD, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at .Freeport, in tliecounty of Stephenson and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined Mop and Scrub-Brush, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has forits object the production of combined mops and scrub-brushes so contrived and arranged that they may be used both in such combination and separately; and it consists of certain new and useful features of construction and combinations-10f parts especially devised to those ends, all as hereinafter fully described, and specifically pointed out in the claim.
Referring to the accompanying drawings,
which form a part of this-application, Figure 1 is a top plan view of a combined mop and scrub-brush embodying my invention and adapted to be used for both mopping and scrubbing. Fig. 2 is a section at'the dotted line 2 3 in Fig. 1 of parts there shown. Fig. 3 is a like section, also at such dotted line 2 3 in Fig. 1, showing the movable jaw of the mop-head pushed away from its fixed jaw by means of its controlling bushing or nut in order that the brush-attaching plate thereof with its brush may be detached therefrom. Fig. 4 is an isometrical detail of the brushattaching plate.
A is a fixed clampingjaw provided with a handle-socket A and having a channel A extending along lengthwise of the lower and straight edge thereof.
B is a movable clamping-jaw parallel with the fixed jaw A, having its ends B" extending and converging rearwardly and united by means of the interiorly threaded nut B through which such ends B are inserted.
G is an exteriorly-threaded bushing turned into and operating the interiorly-threaded nut 13 and the movable jaw B connected therewith.
D is ahandle inserted through thebushing C and nut B into thesocket A in the fixed jaw A, whereinto it is secured.
E is a brush-attaching plate having a flute E formed therein lengthwise thereof and adapted to fit into the channel A in the fixed jaw A and to admit the movable jaw O.
F is a furcated spring fast to the brush-attaching plate E and adapted to bestride and clasp the handle D or socket A of :the fixed jaw A.
G is a scrub-brush secured to the brush-attaching plate by means of screws-G.
H is a mop inserted between the jaws A and B.
The movable jaw B is clamped against the plate E and mop H by rotating the bushing C by means of the ears 0 thereon.
By loosening the jaw 13 and pressing downward upon the plate E the brush G may be disengaged from the mop-head, thus leaving the mop and brush to be used separately, if desired.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a utensil of the class described, in combination,a fixed clamping-jaw,having a channel extending along lengthwise of the lower and straight edge thereof and providedwith a handle-socket, a movable clamping-jawparallel with the'fixed jaw, releasable means for clamping the movable jaw against the fixed jaw, ahandleinserted into the socket in the AUGUST S. HELD.
