2 Claims. (Cl. 15-l5) v Generally speaking, .the present invention relates to a combination mop head holder and brush holder means including a base means adapted to be effectively provided with handle means, spaced clamping bar means, and means for effectively clamping said clamping bar means with respect to said base means with a portion of a mop head (usually a central portion. of a multi-ple strand mop head means, although not specifically so limited) therebetween whereby to lock said mop head in operative relationship with respect to said base means and with respect to said handle means ina manner such as to comprise a complete mop adapted for any suitable type of mopping action.
The novel basemeans of the present invention comprises both a laterally elongated base member and an integrallyconnected, laterally elongated, substantially horizontal and rearwardly directed planar brush holder means taking the form of a brush holder panel member, with both said base member and said brushA holder panel member being formedkout of one piece of, thin-sheet material so as to minimize construction problems and cost as compared to prior art devices intended for generally similar purposes.
The novel brush holder panel means of the present invention is adapted to be effectively provided Vwith a scrubbing brush means which is of a type including a back portion and a plurality of substantially downwardly directed bristles extending from a lowersurface of said l back portion and, therefore, also extending effectively downwardly with respect to said base member of the mop head holder and positioned closely adjacent thereto and usually a little bit behind said base member of said mop head holder whereby -to be located in a manner adapted toract as a back-up member for the mop head and whereby to also be adapted'to be placed in direct scrubbing Contact with any underlying surface, such as a fioor surface or the like, for scrubbing difficult-to-clean portions of said underlying surface which could not otherwise be effectively cleaned by the conventional mop head means.
In one exemplary form of the invention the brush holder meansvcomprises a brush attachment panel member effectively integrally connected with respect to said base'member of the mop head holder. This is so by reason of the provision of integral connectionv means integrally connecting said brush attachment member with respect to said base member of said mop head holder.
In one preferred form of the invention said integral connection means is carried adjacent to the forward edge of said brush attachment member and effectively integrally connects same with respect to a lower edge portion of said kbase member whereby to integrally mount said brush attachment member in a lower, rearwardly directed relationship with respect to said base member of said mop head holder in a manner such that a down- Wardly directed scrubbing brush mounted underneath said rearwardly directed brush attachment member will be positioned behind and will effectively extend downwardly belowthe level of said base member of said mop head holder whereby to be ideally located for effective back-up supporting cooperation with a mop head during a floor mopping operation and/ or for independent direct scrubbing contact with a floor surface during a floorscrubbing operation. i
It is a further object of the present invention'to pro- United States Patent O vide a device of the character referred to hereinbefore which is of relatively simple, inexpensive, easy-to-install, easy-touse construction and which greatly extends and'V expands the usefulness and effectiveness of a conventional mop head holder, whereby to be conducive Ito widespread' base member together effectively comprising a completel base means which, when further provided with the clamping means shown in FlG. l, comprises saidmop head holder. In this viewthe apparatus is so oriented as to facilitate av floor mopping operation by employing the brush holder means of the present invention and a brush carried thereby for effective back-up or pressure-applying purposes with respect to the multiple strand mop head lying between'said brush and an underlying floor surface which is to be mopped. y
FIG. 2 is a smaller size, fragmentary, side elevational view generally similar to FIG. 1 but illustrating the apparatus so oriented with respect to an underlying floor as to facilitate a direct floor scrubbing operation rather than a floor mopping operation of the type illustrated in FIG. l. l
. FlG. 3 is a fragmentary, top plan view of the apparatus illustrated in FlG. 1.
FIG. 3A is an enlarged fragmentary side elevational View of the transverse base means of the mop head holder of FG.. 3 with all other part-s removed.
FIG. 4 is an enlarged fragmentary view, partly in sec tion, taken along the plane represented by Ithe line 4-4 of FlG. 3. f
1 FIG. 5 is a top plan view of the base means of the apparatus of FIG. 3 but with the mop head, mop head clamping bar means, mop handle, and brush all removed for reasons of drawing simplification and clarity.
Generally speaking, the brush holder means for a mop head holder of the present invention comprises the brush holder means, indicated generally at 2l, which carries brush-engageable attachment means, indicated generally at 22, for attachment with respect to a scrubbing brush, suchv as indicated generally at 23 whereby to firmly mount the scrubbing brush 23 in a position suitable for surface-scrubbing or floor-scrubbing operation thereof,
as will be described in greater detail hereinafter.
In the exemplary form of the invention described and illustrated,.the brush attachment means 2l takes the form lof a substantially flat, horizontal brush attachment panel member 24, and the brush-engageable attachment means, indicated generally at ZZ, takes ythe form of a plurality of apertures 25 adapted to carry fastening members,
such as the fastening screws 26, or the like, for control-v lable attachment to the back portion 27 of the scrub- Y bing brush means 23 whereby to firmly mount the scrubn bing brush 23 underneath the fiat brush attachment panelmember ZLi-vwith the plurality of bristles 28 downwardly directed into a positionk adapted for effective oor scrubbing action or mop head back-up and supporting action as will be described in greater detail hereinafter. l
The brush attachment means, indicated generally at' 21, is adapted `to be connected with respect to `a mop head holder, one exemplary type of vwhich is indicated generally by the reference numeral 29. This connection is adapted `to be provided by effective connection means, one exemplary form of which is generally designated estantes rei. 2, ieee.
