WINDOW-CLEANER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Tia-tented, Apr, 5, 393%,
Application filed September 2, 1909. Serial No. 515,882.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Snisno Y. Yosnumwa, a subject of the Emperor of Japan, residing at Treadwell, Alaska, have invented certain new and usefulimprovements in \Vindow- Cleaners, oil which the following is a specilication.
My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in devices for cleaning windows and the like, and the object of my invention is to produce a device of this character which will be highly etlicient and durable.
lVith these and other objects in view my invention consists in certain constructions, con'ibinations and arrangements of parts the preferred form of which will be first described in connection with the accompanying drawings and then the invention particularly pointed out. in the appended claims.
Referring to the drawings wherein the same part is designated by the same reference numeral wherever it occurs, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the preferred embodiment of my invention; Fig. 2 is a central longitudinal section showing the head of the cleaner in one position in full lines and in another position in dotted lines; Fig. 3 is a front elevation with the ends of the cleaner broken away.
a designates the socket adapted to receive the handle 5 at one end. At the other end the socket is slotted as shown at 6, and 7 is an ear projecting from the under side of the cleaner head, said car being pivoted in its slot by means of the pivot 87 The head of the cleaner is formed in the body portion 9 of generally rectangular shape and provided on its side edges with grooves 10, in which are secured strips of sponge 11, the strips of sponge being secured in the groove in any suitable manner. At each end of the head I secure a flattened tube 12 from each end of which projects bristles 13, the ends of the bristles preferably extending beyond the outer edges of the strips of sponge. These bristles will consequently go into the corners of the window or the like and thor oughly clean such corners and crevices. Preferably, and as shown, the tube 12 is slightly concave in. order to cause the bristles to stand out at an angle to the head. and thus more elfectually enter the corners. As it is desirable to be able to readily adjust the angle of the head in relation to the handle in order to use either edge of the cleaner provide the under side of the head with a pair of lugs let in which are pivotally mounted the ends of a bail 15. The outer port-ion of the bail is drawn together and preferably secured by a ring 16, and then the two sides of the bail caused to extend parallel to each other for some distance, as shown at 17, the outer end of the bail being upturned to form a handle as 18.
19 is a bolt which passes through the socket portand between the portions 17 of the bail, and 20 is a wing nut on the end of the bolt, by means of which the bail can be clamped against the socket so as to hold. the cleaner in its adjusted position.
From the foregoing description of the construction of my invention it is believed that its operation will be obvious.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a window cleaner, a socket, a head pivotally mounted on the outer end of the socket, strips of cleaning material secured along the sides of the head, tubes secured to the ends of the head, bristles secured in the opposite ends of the tubes and extending be yond the strips of cleaning i'naterial, a handle seated in the inner end of the socket, and adjusting means connecting the head and handle whereby the head may be adjusted and held at different angles to the handle socket.
2. In a window cleaner, a socket, a head pivotally mounted on the outer end of the socket, strips of cleaning material secured along the opposite edges of the head, a pair of tubes one secured to each end of the head, and bristles secured in the opposite ends of the tubes and extending beyond the strips of cleaning material.
In testimony whereof I atliX my signature. in presence of two witnesses.
SEISHO Y. YOSHHQUVA.
