Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented. Jan. 23,1906.
Application filed December 13,}905- Serial No; 291,634-
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL G. BROSIUS, a citizen of'the United States, residing at Washington, in the District of Columbia, have invented new and useful Improvements in Safety-Razors, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in safety-razors, especially to that class shown and described in my application, Serial No. 246,694, filed. February 21, 1905, for United States Letters Patent, and has for its object the production of a safety-razor wherein the idle cutting edge of the razor-blade is protected and the nicking or breaking the razorblade where it comes in contact with the razor-stops on the front of therazor-shield is avoided. This is accomplished by the construction hereinafter set forth inthe specification and shown b the drawings. I
, Figure 1 shows t e razor-blade in position on. the shield, its front cutting edge resting in contact with the razor-stops ready for use and-its back or idle cuttin ed e rotected by the guard. Fig. 2 shows t e s ie d and'guard with the razor-blade removed. Fig. 3 and Fig.
4 are respectively side -and end views of the razor-blade, showing its corners thickened.
Like index figures indicate like parts throughout the drawings.
As shown in the figures, the razor-shield 3 is secured to the handle 1, to which is flexibly attached the arms 2 ,carrying the two-edged razor-blade 4, which when in position for use in shaving rests upon the said shield with the front or cutting edge bearing against the razorsto s 10, the idle or back edge being protected y the guard ,5, thereby preventin injury to the idle cutting edge or to any su stance with which it otherwise might come in contact. The corners of the cutting edge of the razor coming into contact with the said stops 10 are thickened, as shown at 6, thereby pre- 1 venting nicking or breakingthe saidacorners .45 i
of the razor-blade. I v
The razor-blade is carried by means of the slots 8 in its ends and the clips 7 of the arms 2, the said clips 7 resting in the recesses 9 of the razor-shield 3 The arms 2 form a member for holding the razor-blade 4 in place on the shield and for moving it 'longitudlnally of the handle to lift and to swing it free of the shield.
' My safety-razor, as set forth and described in the application hereinbefore mentioned, is so constructed that either cutting edge of the the razor-blade being lifted from the shield 3, then reversed and reset in 'place.
I do not limit myself to the exact construction shown, as the same may be varied without departing from the spirit of my invention.
What I claim as new, anddesire to cover by Letters Patent, is I a 1. In a safetyrazor, a handle having a shield mounted thereon, a razor-blade having two cutting edges, and a member for. holding the razor-blade movable longitudinally of the handle to lift and swing the blade free ofthe shield, the said shield being provided with a guard protecting the idlecutting edge of the 2. In a safety-razor, 'a handle, a shield secured thereto and provided with razor-blade ing on.the said shield and pressing against the sald stops, the said razor-blade being thickened at the corners of its cutting edge, sub- .stantially as described.
3. In a safety-razor, a handle, a shield selstops in combinatlon with a razor-blade, having two cutting edges, resting on the ened at the corners of its cutting edges, substantially as described.
4. In a safetyrazor, a handle, a shield secured thereto and provided with razor-blade vided Wth two cutting edges havingtheir cor ners thickened, the said blade being adapted to present either cutting edge for use, substantially as described. v
5. In a safety-razor, a handle having .a
two cuttin edges, and a member for holding the razor-b ade movable longitudinally of the handle, the said shield being provided with a guard protecting the idle cutting edge of the v in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
SAMUEL e. BRosIUs.
Witnesses razor-blade may be presented for shaving by' stops in combination with a razor-blade rest cured thereto and rovided with razor-blade stops, in combination with arazor-blade pro-.
shield mountedthereon, a razor-bladehavmgsaid razor-blade, substantially as described.
said shield the said razor-blade being thicksaid razor-blade, substantially as described; 7
' In testimony whereof I afiix my signature roo
