RAZOR.
I l Specification of Letters Patent.
Application led March 16, 1907. Serial'No. 362,750.
Patented May 28, 1907.
useful Razor, of which the following is a specication.
This invention relates to an improvement in razors and one of the objects thereof is to provide a simple eflicient device in,which a thin, replaceable blade is used and which can be used in the same manner asa razor of the cross-sectional view on an f taken on the line 3-33'11 F' vspecication :reference indlcate' the same parts,
vblade is further provided ordinary type. f
Another object of the invention is to' rovide a thin, flat, detachable, ldouble-e ged blade havin an elongated perforation through whicIi a device may be passed to osition and fasten the blade in position, the lade being stiff enough to retam a straight edge. y A further object is to rovide a device of this character having a ouble-edged blade and a double-edged safety guard so arranged that the 'rapor may be used in the same man# ner as one `of the ordinary type` J. With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain constructions and coxibinations which Willbe hereinafter fullydeseribed 'and then specifically pointed out in the claims'hereunto appended.
In thel dra s which form a part. of this anii in which like characters of Figure 1 is a plan view, partly in section, of a'device vconstructed in 'accordance with the invention; Fig. 2'is a side elevation of thelstructure shown in 1; Fig. 3 is a enlarged; scale 1g; Fig. 4 is a side elevationof the structure shown in k1 with certain parts removed and others vsubstituted; 5^.Lis a cross-,sectionalI viewron an enlarged scale taken on the line 5-5 in Fi 4; and Fig.` 6. isa detail view' of a blade.
n the device selected to illustrate the invention, there ispro'vided 'a thin blade '1 Whichis provided With two cutting edges 2, as shown in Figs. 3 and 6. The blade is flat,
and although-thin, is `of sufficient thickness l yto retain the cutting edges in a straight line,
thus avoiding the curlin of the edges when thin fiat an excessiv lade is used. The lwith an telongated 'weight and balancing perforation 3l the purpose of which will be ereinafter explained.
There is provided a support forn'the blade and this support may vary widely in struoture. In the best constructions and as.
oted at 6 to a handle 7 of any suitable character. For the purpose of equaliz'- the the device, thenghank 5 lies in planes offset from the planes of the support and in planes 3o-incident with the lanes of the blade, as is clearly shown in 1g. 1-.
A clamp. is provided 4for securing the blade to the support and this clamp may vary widely in structure. In the best constructions and as shown, a substantially flat clamp',
8 is used, the clamp being narrower than the blade and extending throughout itslength.
(For the' purpose of positioning .the blade with respect to the clamp or su port, the clam or s u port is provided with) an elongated) boss lof)such coniigur'ation as to engage the perforation 3 inthe blade and prevent any relative turning movement thereof. In
the best constructlons and as shown, the
clamp 8 is provided with an elongated boss 9 engaging .t e perforation in the blade and projecting beyond. .The projecting end of the boss 1s provided with an angular recess 10 extending around its edge and arranged to be brought, by a sliding movement ofthe clamp on thesu port, into enga ement with a dove-tailed sli e-way'll cut'int e o erating faceof the lsupport, for the purpse o locking the blade between the su port and'v clam When the device is' to Ibe used asa sa ety razor, the clamp I nay4 be rovided with a double guard 12 of the usual) type formed on the oppositeedges of the cla-mp and arranged to blade.
When, however, the device is to be used as an ex osed blade razor, the'clamp may be proviribd. with an extension 1,3 one ed'e of which is turned over one edge/0f the bla e tor protect it and the user from l'nury.
lco-operate' with the'cutting edges of the l IOO It' will be readily understoo` that by place i I ing a blade in position on the elongated boss of the clamp and then sliding the clamp into clam a detachable blade having an elongate perforation and disposed- `bfetwe'enithe support and clamp', and means shapedlto fit and passing through the perforation'yand enAl gagmg the slideway'for positioning and locking the blade in position, substantially as described.
2. In a razor, the combination with a suport having a slidewaT extended from one l end thereof, of a clamp, a detachable blade havingan elongated perforation and disposed 'between the support and clamp, and
means shaped to fit and passing through the perforation and eneaging the slideway for positioning and locking the blade in position,
substanti'allj;T as described.
3. In a razor, the combination With a supmeans shaped .to iit an port having a shank extended from one end thereof anda slideway extended from the opposite end,4 of a clamp, a detachable blade having an elongated perforation and disposed between the sup ort and clamp, and dpassing through the perforation and engaging the slidoway for positioning and locking the bladel in position, substantially as described.
4. In a razor, the combination with a support having a shank extended from one end thereof and a slideway extended from the opposite end, of a clamp, aydetachable doubleedged blade having an elongated perforation and disposed between the su )port and clamp, a double-edged'safety guard formed on on posite edges of the e] amp, and means shaped to fit and passing through the perforation and engaging the slide'way for positioning and locking the blade in position, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof, I have signed in v name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
SYDNEY I. PRESCOTT.
