FREDERIOK H. I. F1ICKEISSET, OF NEW YORK N. Y.
Specifidatioh of Letter' Pat'ent.
Patented Jan. 26, 1915.
' Application filed flzitober 17, 1918. Serial N0. 795,661.
T0 all whom itmay 00ncem 'Be it known that I, FREDERTCK H. P. FICKEISSEN, a citizen of the Unitd States, and a resident of Richmoncl Hill, Long Island, in the city of New York, county of Queens, emd State of New York, hzwe invented certain new and useful Improvements in Razors,
This invention relates to razors, und "more y improvements therein, Which 'make the usua1 razor entirely safe in its operation, or make a safety razor muCh 1ike theusual or ordinary razor.
The-invention Will be more fully described hereinafter vand finally pointed out in the elaims.
In the accompanying'drawing; Figre 1 is a perspective view of a'razor showing my Fig. 2 is a top view of the same, Fig. 3 is a view of the other side 0f the razor from that shown in Fig. 1, F ig. 4 is a vertitzal transverssection .taken 011 line 44 of Fig. 3, and Fig. 5
is a view with the parts in open' .position.
Similar reference numerals indicate 001- responding parts thr0ughout the sevei:al figures of= the drawing,
Referring to the drawing, and more particularly to Fig. l, ehe handle 10 is of any suitable material, as celluloid, ivory, 0x the like, and is pivoted at 11 to 'the tang 12. The tang con sists of tvvo parallel with each other, as shown in Fig. 2, 0ne part, which is indicated by 13, being provided with a holding portio'n 14, ar-
ranged at each end of the bladz'a-holding mernber, and the other part of which is provided with an upset por"bi0n 15. The man her 13 has also side-holding pieces 17, Which embrace the other tang member 16.
Internlediate the member 13 and the memberl6, a fia mt blade 20 is arranged, Whicl1 has its cutting edge held between'the end members 14, and Which has its back pressed by the upset portion 15.
By the device described, the blacle 20 may be readily supported in psition between the tWo ta ng mernbers 13 and 16', a.nd the corne'n 'edges 0f the blmde may be readily protected by tl1e propecting members 14, while the back ortion 15 serves to press andhold tl1e blade of which the follov'dng is partS arranged in position. The two parallel tangs readily permit the withdrawal of the blade, and the substitution of a new one, and the protect- 1ng corners provide means fo1' safe-guarding the user from injury, While the two bladeholding members permit che blade to extend therethrough, ancl ca11se an efficient cutting surface t0 be presented. The bladeholding portions are beveled ofl as indicated 'by 22 and 28, und the cutting edge portion of the blade indicated by 24 in Fi'g. 4 extends beyond the beveled off portions 22 and 23.
Another advantage 0f my improvement is that the razor may be stropped and wiped without taking holder.
The blade extends beyond the bladeholders about a sixteenth of an inch all alongthe length of the blade-holders and isentire1y free along its length excepting that it has at-its corners, the guard members de.- scribed, to proteot the User from being cut. This is entirely new in the use of 'the ordinary open edge razor'. The opening of the blade-members permits a ready substitntion of the blades. The blade also extends slightly above the blade-hold'ers so that as the blade becomes worn by re-sharpening, the movable Made-holder may readily press downward on the blade and thus give a good surface 130 the user,
I have shown one embodiment of my inventior'1, but chtmges may be madeptherein without depart-ing from the spirit of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
I claim:
12 In a razor, the combination of plates extending substantially 150 the edges of the razor-blade to form a safety-guard therefor, said plates frictionally and immovably gripping said razor-blade, and having portions in front of said blade only at the C01- ners thereof' the exposed edge of seid blade being anterior the reslgof the razor, save the portions of said blades at the corners thereof. 4
2. In a razor, the combination of plates extending substaritially to the edges of the razor-blade to form a. safety-guard therefor, Said plat'es frictionally grippin said razorblade, and having portions in Front of said blade only ab the col11ers thereof, one of I"ed forward.
In testimony that I ciiixh tha foregoing as my invention, I have signed my name in presence oi two subscrlb1ng wfmesses.
