Description
PATENTED JAN. 9, 1906. E. PASTORE. COMBINED TWEEZERS, NEEDLE, AND EYE CURETTE.
APPLICATION FILED MAY 18, 1905.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ERNESTO PASTORE, OF NEW HAVEN, CONNECTICUT. COMBINED TWEEZERS, NEEDLE, AND EYE-CURETTE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented J an. 9, 1906.
Application filed May 18,1905. Serial No. 260,971.
citizen of the United States, residing at New Haven, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in a Combined Tweezers, Needle, and Eye-Curette; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken .in connection with the accompanying drawings and the figures of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawingsconstitute part of this specification and represent, in
Figure 1, a side view of a combined implement constructed in accordance with my invention; Fig. 2, an edge view of the same; Fig. 3, a top view of the tweezers with the needle-shank removed; Fig.4, a side View of the needle-shank and cap removed; Fig. 5, a side view of the same parts with the cap separated from the shank. This invention relates to a combined implement comprising a pair of tweezers, a-needle, and an eye-curette, the object of the invention being to produce a device in which the articles are arranged in a convenient manner; and the invention consists in the construction, as hereinafter described, and particularly recited in the claim.
In carrying out my invention I form the tweezers from a strip of spring metal bent to form a central ortion 2 and legs 3 4, the legs being preferab y tapered to a point. In the head 2 is a centrally-arranged threaded opening 4, adapted to receive the threaded shank 6 of a needle 7, which when the shank is turned into the head 2 will stand between the legs of the tweezers and so as to be r'otected thereby. The shank is formed wit a collar 8, and above the collar the shank has screwthreads 9 to receive a knurled cap 10, adapted to be turned to a bearing on the collar 8.
In the upper end of the shank is an eye curette or oop 11, formed from horsehair, gold wire, silver Wire, or other material suitable to be used in the eye, the loop being protected when not in use by the cap 10, which also forms a convenient handle for the needle when it is removed from the tweezers.
In removing slivers the needle is separated from the tweezers and employed in the usual manner for raising the point of a sliver, after which it may be grasped by the points of the tweezers and removed. The convenience with which foreign substances may be removed from the eye by means of a loop of horsehair or other suitable material is Well known.
It will be understood that I am aware the various implements shown in my improved device are in themselves old, and I do not wish to be understood as claiming such as my invention, nor, broadly speaking, the combination of them all.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is 7 The herein-described article consisting of a pair of tweezers comprising a flat central portion, legs extending downward therefrom, the central portion provided with a screwthreaded opening, a threaded shank arranged to be turned into said opening and carrying a needle-point at its lower end, said shank formed with a collar below its up er end, screw-threads above said collar, a oop inserted into the upper end of said shank, and a cap adapted to set over said loop and be turned onto said shank to a bearing on said collar whereby the shank and cap form a handle for the needle and also for the tweezers, and the tweezers or the needle form a handle for the loop, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ERNESTO PASTORE.
