Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILBUR C. JAMEs, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of Cincinnati, county of Hamilton, and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Boxes, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to boxes such as are commonly used for containing articles of merchandise-as, for instance, packs of cards and has for its object to provide a telescopebox which in addition to being used for storing and shipping said articles may also be used as a means for exhibiting the same.
' My invention will be described with reference to the accompanying drawings, which illustrate a specific embodiment of my device, and the features of novelty will be pointed out in the appended claim.
On the drawings, Figure 1 is a central crosssection of a box made according to my inven tion, taken on line 1 1 of Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a plan View of the same with the cover removed. Fig. 3 is an inverted plan view of the cover of the box, and Fig. 4 is a central cross-section showing my improved box used as an easel.
A is the cover of a telescope-box, provided .with a transverse slit A, which may be shorter than the width of said cover. The
said cover A is adapted to fit over a body or bottom section B of the telescope-box,provided with a tongue B which may be substantially triangular in shape and normally forms part of the bottom of said body-section B when the box is used in the ordinary way, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. If it is desired to use the box as an easel, the tongue B is bent outward from said body B and inserted through the slit A of the cover A, preferably from the inside, as shown in Fig. 4, the cover A thus serving with one end and bottom as a means for supporting the body-section B, whose end rests diagonally against said end and bottom of box B, as shown.
The tongue B will prevent the two parts of the box from becoming separated, and the contents of the body B will be displayed in a convenient manner.
I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent In a telescope-box, composed of the separable boxes A and B, one of which constitutes the cover, the box B having the tongue B stamped out of its bottom close to one end, and the box A having the slit A adapted to receive the tongue B, all arranged to permit the box B to rest with one end diagonally against one end and the bottom of the box A, while both boxes are united by the tongue B as described.
