J. GOLDBERG. BELT OR LONG WAIST PIN ADJUSTER.

ATTO N514:
Patented April 18, 1905.
PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH GOLDBERG,
OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
BELT OR LONG-.WAIST PIN ADJUSTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent NO. 787,508, dated. April 18, 1905. Application filed December 2, 1903. Serial No. 183,448.
To all 1071 0772, it nutty concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH GOLDBERG, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Belt or Long- Waist Pin Adjusters, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a belt or waist-line adjuster; and its object is to provide an improved device adapted to be used for determining the waist or belt line in feminine apparel in order to secure the desired dip effect and to vary said effect in any desired degree.
Further objects and advantages will be in part obvious from the following description and in part pointed out.
The invention accordingly consists in the features of construction, combinations of elements, and arrangement of parts which will be hereinafter fully described, and the novel features thereof pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is an illustrative view showing a clip constructed in accordance with this invention attached to a corset-clasp and the manner in which the belt is held in position thereby. Fig. 2 is a view showing the parts as they appear when disengaged.
Similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout both views.
The invention proposes, broadly, a member adapted to be attached to the clasp of a corset, said member being provided with means for engaging and holding in position a pin or other auxiliary device attached to or carried by the belt, waist, or other article of clothing the position of which relative to the waistline of the corset is to be determined. The member adapted to be attached to the corsetclasp may be varied widely in form without departing from the scope of this invention. In the present instance it is shown as a clip, (designated generally by A,) made of a single piece of material, preferably light sheet metal, bent together so as to form two faces or sides 1 and 2, which will pass on opposite sides of the edge of the corset-clasp, the spring of the at points between two of the hooks E or two of the studs F, this clip may be integral as to the meeting-line between the two side members. In the preferable construction and as shown, however, in order that the range of the adjustability of the clip may be increased there is provided an opening, as at 3, through which one of the hooks or studs may pass, as shown in Fig. 1. Thus the clip may be attached at the point where a hook is located and yet may fit closely to the edge of the clasp, so that the device as a whole may be compact and comfortable.
The material of which the belt or waist is composed is indicated as at H and attached thereto is a pin K. When the clip A is secured to one of the clasps G or D at the desired point, the pin K, attached to the belt or waist, may then be slipped up through loops 4, preferably struck up from the body of the material of which the clip A is made, as shown, and of which loops there may be any desired number.
It will be obvious that other means than the pin shown may be used as the auxiliary attaching means in connection with the belt or waist and other securing and holding de vices may be adopted in connection with the adjustable clip in place of the integral loops shown.
As specific advantages of the construction illustrated, in addition to those which will be obvious, may be noted the ease and facility with which this clip, owing to the spring material from which it is made, may be placed in position at any desired point of the clasp or removed therefrom, the closeness with which it maybe made to lit the clasp, whether at a point adjacent one of the hooks or studs or at another point, thereby increasing the compactness of the article and the comfort of the wearer, and the advantage of the pinloops or engaging devices carried by the clip in that they provide a point of engagement for the pin on the belt, to which point the belt may be readily and accurately brought after each disengagement without injury to the fabric covering the clasp, or any other part of the clothing of the wearer.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A clip adapted to be adjustably secured to a corset-clasp, said clip having members adapted to pass on each side of the clasp and grip said clasp between them, and being also provided with a pin-loop on one face thereof.
2. A clip adapted to be adjustably secured to a corset-clasp, said clip having members adapted to pass on each side of the clasp and grip said clasp between them, and being also provided with a pin-loop struck up from one face thereof. 7
3. Aclip of the character described adapted to be secured to a corset-clasp, said clip being provided with an opening through which a fastening device on the clasp may pass and a loop adapted to act as an engaging and restraining device for a belt or waist pin.
4. In a device of the class described, a resilient metallic clip adapted to embrace adj-ustably the clasp of a corset, a pin, and loops upon the clip through which said pin may be thrust.
5. In a device of the class described, in combination, a resilient metallic clip adapted to embrace the clasp of a corset and having an opening through which the fastening device of said corset may project, a pin and spaced loops upon said clip through which said pin may be thrust.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
