IMPROVEMENT IN SEATS FOR HABVESTEBS.

TO ALL WHOM IT MAY, CONCERN:
Be it known thatI, W. LUDLOW, of Cleveland, in the county of Guyahogafln the State of Ohio, have invented a new 'and useful Improvement in the Method of Attaching Seats to Mowing-Machines, Harvesters. and Horse-Rakes; and I'hereby' declarethe"fol1owing to be a fuiT, clear, and exact description thereof, raterence being had to the annexed drawings, and the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
' The nature of my invention consists in suspending the seat to'the harvester, Ste, whereby thelateral motion incident to these machines is not'communicated to the seat thereof.
The annexed drawings show the general construction and adaptation of the-seat.
By the ordinary method, the seat is attached directly to the harvester, whereby it necessarily pal-takes of the motion of the harvester, mowing-machine, &c.
To obviate this, I suspend the seat as shown in the drawings. A bar of iron, (,g bent in the form shown, is attached to the harvester, mowing-machine, or horse-rake, either directly, or by means of the spring-support D. Another bar, or piece of hoop-iron, B, is bent to correspond, in a. measure, with C, and to it is attached -the seat A. The hat B is then attached to the bar C by means of the two boltslt and q, -the whole being attached to the spring-bar D, substantially as shown.
Although the lateral motion'of the harvester will be communicated to the axis or point of the Heat's suspension, it is evident, because of the seats inertia, it will not partake of that motion. v
I claim a seat for harvesters, mowing-machines, and horse-rakes, suspended so es to swing laterally, constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purpose herein set forth.
