Be it known that I, CLARA Z. CUMMINGS, of the city of Buffalo, county of Erie, and State of New York,I

have invented a new and improved Corset for ladies use; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specifieation, vihich represents a Vpo'sterior view of a. corset made upon the principle of vi ny improvement. The nature of my nvention consists in making the back of the corset of a pieceA of elastio rubber goods,

properly inserted thei'ein, and in the application of 'elastic buckle-fastenings lacross the back.

The main body of the corset is represented in the drawings at A. This part maybe madepof common material'and in a commonmanner. The back of the oorset, which isthe subject of my improvement, is made of a piece of elastic rubber goods, and is represented at B. This piece extend's from the top to the bottom of the eorset, and is firmly and properly sewed or stitched to the main body, and forms an elasticpback, which will vyield in any direction to the requirements of the body, and allow of unrestrained motion and free respiration.

An elastic buckle-strap, C, is applied near the centre of the oorset,` and also near the top, as shown at D, asa further and additional means of adjustment, so that the oorset can be readily and easily tigbtened or loosened, and ada-pted to the person, as varyingcircumstances may require. The tube E present the means of 'fastening or attaching the buekle-strap D to the body of the corset. I

A corset constructed as herein described, is verylcheap 'and simple, and easily made, avoids interminable laeings, and answers all the `anatomical requirements which the changing conditions of 'the female form may demand.

What I claim as my inventio'n, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is---A A corset, having a portion of its back formed of-elastie goods, B, and provided with elastic buckle7straps, C and I), for the purposes, and substantially as described.
