ATTOHNEVS W/THESSES WW r gr" UNITED STATES Patented December 2'7, 1904.
JULIUS GUTTMANN, OF NEIV YORK, N. Y.
SUSPENDlNG-CLAIVIP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 778,780, dated December 27, 1904. Application filed June 10, 1904. Serial No. 211,960.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be itknown that I, JULIUS GUT'IMANN, a citi- Zen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in suspending Clamps, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to clamps of the class usually employed as a part of the suspending devices for ladies hose; and the object thereof is to provide an improved clamp of this class which is simple in construction and operation and which may be conveniently used for the purpose specified, as well as for other purposes, and in other relations where devices of this class are required.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of th views, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved clamp; Fig. 2, a sectional side view thereof, showing the parts in a diIIerent-position; and Fig. 3 an end view of the device as shown in Fig. 1.
In the practice of my invention I provide a clamp comprising two side plates (0 and b, integrally connected at one end and formed into a transverse eye or loop 0, adapted to receive a link or similar device (Z, with which in practice is connected a suspending-strap e.
The ends of the side plates at and b of the clamp opposite the eye or loop 0 are provided with inwardly-directed jaws a and 5 respectively, and these jaws are provided with serrations or teeth f, and the said side plates a and Z; are formed of spring metal, and one of said plates, that designated by the reference character a in the form of construction shown, is provided about midway thereof with a transverse shoulder a, formed by bending said plate abruptly inwardly, and the other plate, that designated by the reference character b, is formed adjacent to the eye or loop 0 into a transverse eye or loop it, in which is mounted a link 2', through which the plate a passes, and this link t'is provided centrally of its free side with a thumb and finger piece j.
The plates a and 6 form. in eifect, spring clamping-jaws, and the parts a and Z1 at the free ends thereof form supplemental jaws, and when the link 2' is in the position shown in Fig. 2 the jaws a and b and the supplemental jaws a and are separated by the spring action of the jaws a and b and the eye or loop 0, and whenever it is desired to clamp and hold an object, such as a pair of hose, the upper end of the hose is inserted between the jaws (L2 and b and the jaws a and b are pressed together by forcing downwardly the free end or side of the link 2' until it engages the transverse shoulder g, as shown in Fig. 1, when the jaws a and 6 will be pressed together, or substantially so, so as to hold the article or object placed between them.
My improved clamp is particularly designed for use as a suspending device for hose and other garments, but may be used wherever such or similar devices are required.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A spring-clamp composed of spring-jaws integrally connected at one end and formed into an eye, a link connected with said eye, said jaws being provided at their free ends with inwardly-directed teeth, one of said jaws being also provided midway thereof with an outwardly-directed transverse shoulder, and the other jaw with a link which is loosely connected therewith between said shoulder and the connected ends of said jaws and through which the jaw having a shoulder passes, said last-named link being adapted to engage said shoulder so as to clamp and hold the jaws together, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing, as my invention I have signed my name, in presence of the subscribing witnesses, this 8th day of June, 1904:.
JULIUS GUTTMANN. itnesses:
