UNITED STATES PATENT EEicE.
ANDREW M. ERICKSON, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO ROBERT A. SCHOENFELD, OF SAME PLACE.
HOSE-SUPPORTER.
SPEIFICATIO forming part of LetterS :Patent NO. 645,252, dated March 13, 1900.
Application filed August 28, 1899.
.To @ZZ whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, ANDREW M. ERICKSON,
of Chicago, in the county ot' Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in HoseSupporters; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification. This inventionrelatestoanimprovementin hose-supporters of that class in which a slotted clip is provided on the outer end of the webbing and a stud sui-mounted by a button grips the edge of the garment in said clip, and has for its object a construct-ion adapted to prevent the said loop or clip from cutting or wearing the garment.
The invention consists inthe matters hereinafter described, and more fully defined in the appended claims.
In the drawings, Figure l is a view in front elevation, showing the end of the supporter in engagement with the hose. Fig. 2 is a view in perspective, showing the same disengaged from the hose and opened.
As shown in the drawings, a band of textile material A is provided at its lower end with slotted depending clip or loop B, of metal or other suitable material. The slot, as usual in such clips or loops, is longitudinal of the clip and is wider at its upper end than at its lower end; but at its narrowest part the width of the said slot is such that the edges of the clip form no part of the gripping-surface. At the lower end ot' said clip or loop, on the outer side thereof, is riveted a circular button b, of resilient material, such as rubber or the like, one side of which projects upwardly beyond the lower end of the slot and forms one of the gripping-surfaces. The said band A is also provided with an extension-band of textile or other suitable material A', similar to and united with the band A at its lower extremity and depending downwardly behind the said loop or clip. The said extension-band is provided on its outer side with a clasp, from which projects on the side adjacent to the clip or loop and at a point slightly below the lower end of the slot a stud surmounted with a head orbutton a', preferably of rubber or other resilient material, which constitutes the other gripping-surface and which is adapted to be inserted in the top of the gripping-slot in the said loop and to be moved downwardly in the narrower or contracted part until the edge of the button a' comes in contact with the edge i of the button l). The top of the hose or garment having been engaged by the button a' and inserted therewith in the loop and moved downwardly will be firmly held between the edges of the buttons ft' and b, forming the gripping device.
Obviously garment-supporters constructed in accordance with my invention prevent the garment slipping out of engagement with the gripping device, inasmuch as the same is firmly gripped or held between smooth surfaces of resilient material, which when strain is brought upon the garment tend to indent each other, greatly increasing the surfaces of contact.
While I have shown as a preferred construction the button a of resilient material, I do not wish to be limited thereto, since many of the advantages of the invention maybe attained if the button a be a metal pin or stud of the ordinary construction, the essential feature of the invention being the use of a rubber or resilient tip, as h, to form one of the gripping-surfaces located upon the outside of the slotted loop B.
I claim as my invention- 1. The combination in a garment or hose support, of a band provided at one of its ends with an extension-band and a metallic loop or clip provided with a central longitudinal slothaving its greatest width adjacent to said webbing band, a' resilient button rigidly secured on the outer side of the clip, and a button, stud or post secured on said extensionband and adapted to be inserted through said slot to engage the resilient button on the clip.
2. The combination in a garment orvhose supporter of a band provided with an extension-band and a metallic loop or clip provided with a central longitudinal slot which is widest adjacent to said baud, a resilient button secured on the outer side and lower end of said clip with its edge extending over the end of the slot and a resilient button IOO mounted on a stud on the extension-band, the extension-band, adjacentto said olip and adjacent to said clip and adapted to be inadapted to be inserted in said slot, acting to serted in said slot, and acting to engage the engage the resilient button on the clip. 15 resilient button on the clip. v In testimony that I claim the foregoing as 5 3. The combination in a garment o1- hose my invention I affix my signature,in presence supporter of a band provided with an eX- of two Witnesses, this 25th day of August, tension-band and a metallic loop or clip pro- A.
