Description
@uitrit faire @anni @fitta WILLIAM H. SMITH, OF NEW YRK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND ISRAEL HEGKER. i v
Letters .Patent No. 77,774, dated May 12, v1868.-
SINKER FOB. FISHING-LINES.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY'CONCERN: l l
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. SMITH, of New York, in the county of New York, and in the State of New York, have invented certain new'and useful Improvements in Sinkers for Angling-Lines; and do hereby declaro -that the following is a full, clear, and exact description'v thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawingsz and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
In the annexed drawings, making part of this specication, L A are tw'o conical-shapedv metallio vtips or ends to a sinker, which are made hollow from end to end. In Figure QJhe outer ends of these tips are provided with metallic pins, B B, and these pins have swivel-rings', C` C, secured to theiifouter ends.. i I
To the inner end of one of these tips is secured aserew-shaft, Gr, and in the inner end ofthe other is a nut, H, to t the thread of the shaft. y .r
D D represent a series of metallic disks, .which are provided with holes through their centres. These disks slip over the shaft G. -The shaft is made' long enough torreceive several of the disks, so that the sinker'may be made heavier, if desired. The screw-shaft in Figure is hollow; so that thc line can be passed through the sinker in the linexx.
In iig. 2, the line is passed through the swivellrings C C, and runs on the outside of, insteadof; through, the centre of the sinker. vWhen the line passes through the-Sinkel', as in fig. 1, it can be fastened or secured to it by means of pins, or by some adjustable inode by which the sinkcr may be shifted on theline'at pleasure.
The sinker is made lighter by decreasing the number of disks, and heavier by increasing them, of course.
The nut H may be dispensed with, by making a female *screw in the opposite inner end of the tip to that which contains the shaft- G. i A
Having thus fully described my invention, what'I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
Making a sinker in two parts, and in such a mannerthat sections or disks may be ,added to or taken from it, for the purpose of increasing or diminishing'its weight, substantially as herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing, I have hereunto-set my hand-and seal, this 4th day of November, 186.7.
