HENRY H. PEMB-ER, or NEW Yoann. Y. Leners rama-Nacasso, dan@ Marti. l12, '1867.
ilgt tlgemle telenet tu in lgrse rttrts zitrnt mit uniting pnt-things same.
To ALL WHoM rr MAY ooNoEnNe Be it known that I, HENRY H. PEMBER, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and, improved F-id; and Ido hereby declare that thefollowing is a full, clear, and exact description thereof,v
which will enable others skilled in tho art to make and use the same, reference being,r had to the accompanying drawings, forming-npart of this specification.
The present invention relates to an implement or tool, called a iin used more particularly by seamen for securing a cringle-rope about theout-sideof a. ring or thinnble; and this invention consists in formingor making the .id. in sections, and in so vconstructing it in other respects ns to receive and hold a ring or thimble of any desired size within its limit, sov that as the cringle-rope or-cord is driven .and forced over the iid from its smaller to its larger end such cringle will, when stretched thereby to the proper degree, fall or come into position about and around the ring or thimble. f
By means ot a iid of the construction herein 'above described cringles can be made to greater advantage and with more facility, less labor and trouble than heretofore, for this reason, more especially, that the cringle, after being stretched upon the iidvto the required degree'to lit over-the thimble 'or ring, must be then removed therefrom and forced .over such ring. y i l :In the accompanying plate of drawmgs my improved cid'is illustrated. the figure being a4 central section through the same in the direction of its length.l i v A,'in the drawings, represents aid, which, in lieuf being made solid and ofv one piece, as heretofore, is made in a series of sections or parts, B, divided transversely or across its width from end toend, either equal or unequal in size.- The several parts are 'show nas placed one upon another in regular 'order an'dsuccession, rest-A ing upon the section constituting the larger end of the tid, from which extends up and through the centre of the several sections a centre rod or shaft, C, around which they t, the series, when placed in proper order and succession,'forming a tid of the ordinary taper shape from end to end. In the drawing,a ring or thimble is shown as placed between two sections of the d at that point of'its length where the diameterof the same corresponds, or nearly so, to that of the ring or thinuble, so that when the cringle is driven` or forced over the 'tid from its :mailer to its larger end it will, after being thereby stretched to the proper degree, fall into position over and Aabout the ring or thimble.
Having thus described my invention, what-I claim as nerr, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- The iid, consisting of a series of transversely divided sections, B, of conical forni, resting on each other,
fitted on the shaft C, and adapted to receive the thimble between the sections relative to sine, substantially as represented and described.
The above specification of my invention signed by me this 15th day of, November, 1866.'
HENRY H. PEHBER.
