attached to the head of the brush by a. screwfD. B is a. hollow conical-shaped head of brass or other suitable metal. C is :L beard swaged in the head. E isnbend of rubber, which muy be'slipped down townrds the point of the bristles Fito shorten the brush. V Y. 'Y
Figure 2 is a. sec't'ionnl view of my invention showing its internal construction. Bis the head; G II,"'a screw riveted at O in handle-socket D, and of course turns with the handle. S S is a .concLshaped cup, with a nut on its bottom ati-1', which works on the screw Gr H. M M is :t cylinder olif brass, divided into Steves 4, 5,- 6, 7, 8, 9 (see fig. 3) nearly its whole length. 2, 3 is :1. round band of hard rubber over the end oi' the cylinder M M. :md kept in its plnce by slightly bending the ond of the fstaves" out.
This cylinder is placed outside the screw, as shown in fig. 2. The' conical cup S S is then screwed on the screw G H n. part of theway, and being into tbe cylinder M M opens the stares in the manner shown in iig. 2, the rubber band stretching as required. The bristles'ure placed in the head around the cylinder M M. The lmndie Ai now turned, drawing theiconical cup S Sinto the cylinder M M, thus compressing the bristles between the rubber bnnd 2, 3 and thehollow bead C, this band and thebeadby this means makinguucrook or .bend in the bristles` thus preventing them from being drawrrout.
What I claim as my invention, and desrev'to secur'e by Letters Patent, is as follows, to wit:
