PATENT OEEIcE.
PETER J. NEERUP, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO HENRY H. BOESENBERG, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
KNIFE-'SHAHPENER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 777,483, dated December 13, 1904. Application filed February 9, 1903. Serial No. 142,481- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, PETER J. N EERUP, acitizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Knife-Sharpeners; and I do hereby declare the following to be afull, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to an improved combination cutting-board and knife-sharpener for domestic use, the object being to provide a device of this character which will be efficient for its purpose, convenient to use, and which will be very durable; and it consists in the features of construction and combinations of claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, illustrating myinvention, Figure 1 is a top plan view of a device made in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is an end elevation of same, showing the knife-sharpening part of the device. Fig. 3 is a section on line 3 3 of Fig. 2.
In said drawings, A represents a rectangular cutting-board provided at one end with the knife-sharpener B. Said knife-sharpener comprises two hardened-steel rollers O and D,
revolubly mounted on a plate E, which is.
rigidly mounted on the end of said cuttingboard A. Said rollers O and D are V-shaped on their edges, the roller O being concave and the roller D being convex and the two being mounted on the pins F in such a relation to each other that the extreme outer edge G- of said roller D enters part way into the groove parts hereinafter fully described and H in said roller O, thus forming a V-shaped space I between the adjacent portions of said rollers. It is to be observed that the plateE has its ends extended beyond the rollers and apertured to receive screws to enable the device to be secured to the board or the like. The board A is cut away, as at J, opposite the space I, sothat when sharpening a knife by drawing the edge of same between said rollers the edge of the knife will not cut into the board. The plate E is also cut away opposite said space has at K, to allow the free passage of the edge of the knife when sharpening same.
My device is a very simple and convenient one for the purpose for which it is designed.
I claim as my invention In a knife-sharpener, the combination of a board cut away at one edge to form an openended slot, a plate secured upon the edge of said board and spanning said slot, a wheel pivotally attached to said plate and having a V-shaped groove in its periphery, and a second wheel also pivotally attached to said plate and having the edge tapering from the sides of the wheel to the center, the edge of the said board having a slot in the rear of the overlapping edges of the wheel and the said plate being cut away on both sides in the rear of the overlapping edges of said wheel.
In testimony whereof I allix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
PETER J. NEERUP. Witnesses:
E. F. WILSON, E. J. BOILEAU.
