RAZOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed March 16, 1912.
Patented Apr. 15,1913.
Serial No. 684,173.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN J. WILLIAMS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pocatello, in the county of Bannock and State of Idaho, have invented new and useful Improvements in Razors, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to a razor and has for its primary object to provide a razor in which the blade thereof near the heel or back edge is provided with a plurality of spaced openings which permit lather upon a strop to pass through the blade from the contacting face thereof with the said strop to the opposite face of the same during the honing of the razor, thus, enabling the convenient and quick sharpening of the razor.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a razor in which the blade thereof is formed with perforations which enables the convenient and quick stropping or honing of the same for sharpening purposes.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a razor which is simple in construction, reliable and eflicient in operation and inexpensive in manufacture.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.
In the drawing: Figure l is a perspective view of a razor constructed 1n accordance with the invention, showing the'blade in partly open position. Fig. 2 is a vertical, transverse, sectional view through the blade.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawing.
Referring to the drawings by numerals the razor comprises a handle having spaced parallel side cheeks 5, the same being held separated by means of a spacer block 6 interposed between the cheeks at one end of the handle, the cheeks being connected by means of the usual rivet 7 passed through the same near opposite ends of the handle. One of the rivets 7 is designed to serve as a pivot for a razor blade 8, the same being formed with a shank 9 pivotally mounted between the cheeks 5 of the handle and loosely connected to the said pivot whereby the blade may be swung inwardly between the cheekswhen not in use, and also outwardly from between the same when the razor is to be used in the usual well-known manner.
The blade 8 is of the ordinary well-known construction provided with a sharpened edge 10, while formed in the said blade at intervals near the heel or back edge thereof are a plurality of transverse openings or holes 11, so that on the stropping or honing of the blade lather will flow through the holes 11 from the face of said blade contacting with the strop or stone to the opposite face of the blade, so that on the turning of the blade on the strop or stone, a
quantity of lather will be held thereon for the convenient and quick sharpening of the said blade.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, the construction and operation of the invention should be clearly understood it is thought, and therefore, a more extended explanation has been omitted.
What is claimed is A razor comprising a slotted handle, a blade pivoted in the slotted handle and adapted to swing within and away from the same and having opposed concaved faces, the said blade being further providedwith a series of spaced unobstructed transverse openings arranged near the rear edge thereof throughout the longitudinal extent and intersecting the opposed concaved faces of the blade, whereby lather will flow through the openings from one entire face to the other of said blades, the walls of the openings terminating flush with the opposed faces of the blade.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN J. WILLIAMS.
Witnesses:
RICHARD DOUGLAS, FELIX VAN REUTH.
