Razors. Y
No. 155,643, Patentecli Oct. 6,1874.
UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
FERDINAND ERDMANSKI, OF HIAWATHA, KANSAS..
IMPROVEMENT IN RAZORS. l
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 155,64, dated October 6, 1874; application filed September 5, 1874.
To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, FERDINAND ERD- MANSKI, of Hiawatha, in the county of Brown and State of Kansas, have invented a new and Improved Razor, of which the following is a speciiication:
In the accompanying drawing, Figure l represents a side view of my improved razor; Fig. 2, a top view of the razor-blade detached; Fig. 3, a sectional rear view of the razor; and Fig. '4, a vertical transverse section of the I same on the line c c, Fig. 3.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of my invention is to produce an improved razorwith interchangeable blades, by which not only time in honing is saved, but also a considerable economy in the use of razors produced.
My invention consistsot a detachable blade, which is inserted into the supporting back part or frame of the razor, being fastened therein by its hinged top half', which is secured by a suitable slide-piece or other locking device on the lower or main part. The steady position of the razor-blade is secured by means of pins of the main part of the supportingframe, passing through symmetrically arranged holes of the blade into recesses of thc hinged part.
In the drawing, A represents a razor-handle of the usual construction, to which the main part B1 of the blade-supporting back part or frame B is applied in the usual manner. The upper part B2 of frame B is hinged at the front end of the same, and fitted exactly to a recess of the main part. The top part B2 is be put in with the rear part to the front and with the front to the rear, which admits of the use of the sharp rear part after the front part has become dull, saving thereby time in hon ing. The top part of the blade C is provided with perforations a, which fit on pins b ot' the main part Bl. The hinged part B2 has corresponding recesses b for the pins, and is brought over the blade and pins so as to bind irmly thereon. The tongue-shaped end l of hinged top part B2 fits into a recess, d', of the main part B1, and is securely locked therein by a dovetail slide-piece, e, passing laterally in a groove, e', across the recessed end of thel tongue d.
Any other screw or equivalent fastening device may be used, as I do not confine myself to the use of the slide-piece. One handle part and supporting-frame may thus serve for any number of razor-blades which are readily and conveniently inserted, so as to form a cheaper and more economical razor for general use.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. As an improvement in razors, the combination of supporting back or frame B, consisting of main part B1 and hinged and fastened top part B2, with a detachable symmetrical razor-blade, C, substantially as and ,for the purpose set forth.
2. The razor-blade C, having pertorations a, in combination with pins b otl the lower main part B2 and recesses b' of the top part of supporting-frame B, for the purpose of securing steady position of blade, substantially as described.
FERDINAND ERDMANSKI.
