H. KAPPBLE. DOOR FASTENER'.
APPLICATION FILED MAY 27. 1904. N0 MODEL.
UNITED STATES Patented August 16, 1904.
PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY KAPPELE, OF MATTEAWAN, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR OF ONE- HALF TO JOHN J. BRADLEY, OF MATTEAWAN, NEW YORK.
DOOR-FASTENER- S PEGIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 767,566, dated August 16, 1904.
Application filed May 27, 1904. Serial No. 210,041. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HENRY KAPPELE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Matteawan, Dutchess county, State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Door-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a fastener of simple construction which will securely lock a door from the inside of a room.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a horizontal section of a door provided with my improved fastener. Fig. 2 is a face view of the fastener, showing it locked; Fig. 3, a plan of Fig. 2; Fig. 4, a face view of the fastener with the catch withdrawn; Fig. 5, a plan with the catch withdrawn and the latch swung back; and Fig. 6, a cross-section on line 6 6, Fig. 2.
The letter a represents a face-plate adapted to be attached to the door-frame A by screws (4'. From plate a extend a pair of parallel posts (f, to which is hinged a latch 0, adapted to be projected over the edge of door B. In order to hang the latch to the posts the former is provided with a knuckle 0, through which passes a pintle d, journaled in the posts (4 The knuckle c has a squared lower face 0 which is set off from plate a, so that a rearwardly-opening recess e'is formed intermediate posts a and between plate a and squared face 0 of knuckle c.
To the plate a there is pivoted at f a catch f, having handle f and adapted to enter recess e.
In use the latch 0 is thrown across the edge of door B, and the catch f is swung inward to enter recess 6, Figs. 2 and 3. The latch will thus be locked against turning and by extending rigidly across the door will prevent the latter from being opened. To release the door the catch f is withdrawn, Fig. i, and the latch c is swung back over plate a, Fig. 5, when the door may be freely opened.
I What I claim is A door-fastener composed of a plate, posts projecting therefrom, a hinged latch having a squared knuckle intermediate the posts and above the plate to form an intervening recess, and a pivoted catch adapted to engage said recess, substantially as specified.
Signed by me at Matteawan, New York,
this 25th day of May, 1904.
HENRY KAPPELE.
