PATENT CEEIcE.
OVERALLS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 765,156, dated July 12, 1904;.
Application filed June 5, 1903. Serial No. 160,258. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHARLEs FAsoLDT, a citi- Zen of the United States, residing at Grand Rapids, in the county of Kent and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Overalls, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in overalls having an apron or bib front; and its objects are, first, to dispense with side openings, and thus avert the danger of soiling the pantaloons upon the hips and pocket-openings, and, second, to close a back opening and hold the parts to place with the suspenders. I attain these objects by the construction shown in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is an elevation of a pair of overalls upon an outlined form with the suspenders in place over the shoulders of the wearer. Fig. 2 is the same with the suspenders removed and the flaps thrown back to show the back opening; and Fig. 3 is an elevation of the upper portion of the overalls cut away at a: w to show a stiffening inserted in the waistband to assist in holding the flaps to place without the use of buttons, 620.
Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
A represents the overalls, and F is an outline of the upper portion of the body of the wearer. In the usual construction of overalls having apron or bib fronts, as indicated at B, the overalls are left open at the sides a a for the purpose of facilitating putting them on or taking them off the wearer. This 7 opening is not only liable to but invariably tween the lapels D in the back of the pantaloons and provide for closing these lapels and holding them to place by the crossing of the suspenders C at 0, as indicated in Fig. 1, and wholly avert the necessity of placing buttons, hooks, or other fastening device upon the lapels to fasten them together. To further insure the holding of these lapels to place by the support of the suspenders, I sometimes place a stiffening or brace E, of heavy fabric or other suitable material, in the waistband in the back in such position that its pressure upon the side near a 0, together with the action of the suspenders near the other end, will insure a perfect closing and holding in place of the lapels D when the suspenders are in place over the shoulders, as in Fig. 1, while without it the corners of the lapels between the attached ends of the suspenders would fold over in an unsightly manner and leave an undesirable opening between them.
cZ represents an auxiliary stay stitched at the lower end of the opening or slit and may be placed either upon the outside of the overalls, as in Figs. 1 and 3, or inside, as indicated in Fig. 2.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is
In combination with overalls having an apron-front integral therewith, a back terminating at the waist-line and divided by a vertical slit, overlapping lapels covering said slit, and suspenders fastened to the upper corners of the apron-front, thence passed over the shoulders crossed at the back and attached to the lapels, a supporting-strip in the waistband of each of said lapels and projecting back to the hip of the wearer, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
Signed at Grand Rapids, Michigan, June 1,
CHARLES FASOLDT. In presence of- ITHIEL J. CILLEY, C. V. CILLEY.
