Application tied August 7, 1922. serial in). 580,129;
To all oonccmi Be it known that I,-EnNA;-.'F
of Des Moines, in the'coi nty and useful Undergai'ment, of which the following is a specification' Theobjectof my invention is to provide form-fitting and which will do away with a two-piecestructure, in which caseit is ordinarily necessary to have the upper edge.
at the waistline. In this connection, it may be mentioned that" when the ordinary bloomers are used,
some rubber band or other suitable material is necessary around the waistline for hold ing the same in position, and it is my object .pieoe element, which has a hlooiner'section and a brassiere section sewedtogether and rovided with an open side, which extends from the bottom of the bloomer section .to the top of the brassiere section, so that the garment maybe put on. L Still another ob ect is to provide the edges of the open side of the garment with coacting' fastening devices, whereby they may be secured. together and to arrangeone edge of the bloomers section, so that it substan--' them always closed.
tially overlaps the other edge for keeping With these and other objects in view, my I invention consists in the construction, ar-,
rangement and combination of the various parts of my underga'rment, whereby the objects contemplated are attained, as hereinafter more fully set forth, pointed out in my claim,-and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure l is a rspective view of my undergarment partially shown open.
Figure 2 is a back view of the arment.
Figure 3 is an enlarged, detail'view of a portion ofthe garment.
Figure 4 is a sectional view taken on the line 44 of Figure 1, greatly enlarged; and Figure 5 is an enlarged, detail view of a portion of the lorassiere section.
In the accompanying drawings, l have used the reference character A to indicate 1 generally .a brassiere section and the refer- SwA N -a d a resident": ofQPolk "and State of Iowa, have invente'd'ja certain/new ence character B a bloomer section.
The brassiere section A'is provided with a'pair of shoulder straps 10. The brassiere section is also provided with darts 11, -which.cause the brassiere to be form-fitting and contracted at the lower edge or waist-. line-thereof. a one piece undergarment, which will be Secured to the flap 12and partially below theniaterial of the brassiere section are the ey'cs13. On theopposite edge of the-brassiere-section is a binding strip 14 reinforcing: the edge of the -brassiere, so that the hooks 15 may be secured thereto. 15 may coact with the eyes 13. I
The flap l2:overlaps the adjoining edges so as. to prevent the hooks and eyes from The hooks The bloomer section B includes a pair of legreoeivmg portions, which are contracte.
at their lower ends as at 16. A rubber or coming in contact with the persons body. to overcome the' undesirable feature of hava ing the lower ends of the leg portions of the bloomers contracted and in snug fitting position around the leg of the wearer.
The upper edge of the bloomer section B is sewed to thelower edge of the brassire section A and a binder strip 17 is placed on the inner side of the overlapping edges,
so as to reinforce and cover the seam between the brassicre section and the bloomer section. 1 i
The binder strip 17 is so positioned that it comesat the waistline of the entire garment, and I provide an eye 18 on the-waistline of the garment, which coac-ts with a hook 19 for holding the garment snugly around the waistline of the wearer.
' Near the upper end'of the bloomer section on one side and the back are provided darts 20 for contracting the upper endof the bloomers, so as to make them form-fitting around the waistline and to provide fullness in the leg portions thereof.
The upper edge of the brassiere'section is provided with a binding 21;
One of the leg portions of the bloomer section is open on its side, as at 22. The opening 22 is continuous from the opening in the side of the hrassiere A.
One edge of the material from the bloomer section projects slightly beyond the edge Of the bra re se tion, so as to form aflap or extension 23; as clearly shown in Figures 1 and 3 of the drawings.
The opposite. edge of the bloomer section is arranged substantially flush with one edge of the brassiere section.
The flap 23 is provided with a number of fastening devices 24, while the edge of the opposite edge of the bloomer section is provided with coacting snap fasteners 25.
It will be seen -that-one edge of the leg portion of the bloomers laps a substantial distance over the other edge thereof. The. purpose of providing the overlapping I edge is to preventfthere being any open portion between the snap fasteners.
It is desirable to use only a few snap fasteners and 'for that reason. it is necessary to provide the 0' 'erlapping edge of some substantial distance. i
The open side of the garment is arranged preferably on the left side.
It will be seen that the garment is so arranged that it isform -fitting'and that there is no fullness at the waistline of the wearer, as is the case when garments are used that are of several pieces. a
It will also be seen that the garment is held, in proper position by the shoulder straps and this is quite desirable, especially when the bloomers are comparatively large in the leg portion.
My undergarment is preferably designed for wearing when no corset is used.
, some changes maybe made in the form of my undergarment without departing from the essential purpose and spirit, of my invention. and it is my intention to cover by my claim. any changes which may be reasonably included therein.
I claim as my invention: A garment of the class described. comprising a brassiere section, form-fitting.
with darts at the sides and provided with shoulder straps, a bloomer section sewed thereto at the waist-line, said hloomer tion having front and back seams substantially at the vertical center thereof-with a closedcroteh and having separate legs extending downwardly from the crotch pro-
