To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, JACOB RIFKIN, a citizen of the United States, residing in l/Vilkes- Barre, Luzerne county, Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Union-Garments, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to an improvement in overall union suits or'other one piece garments, comprising a combined blouse. or shirt, and trousers. v

One object of my invention is to facilitate donning and removing such garments.

Loosely fitting as is the blouse-or shirt portion of the present style of garment as commonly manufactured, elderly persons and those inclined to stoutnesshave some difiiculty in putting on the union overall, and more difficulty in removing the gai--' ment, due to the fact'that it is necessary to throw the shoulders back and toward each. other in order to strip the shoulder portions of the garment ofi of the shoulders of the wearer; Y 7

Garments equipped with my invention obviate this disadvantage,,and are easily put on and takenoif with a minimum of trouble and without loss of time. The back and breast pieces of the usual union overall are permanently connected or fastened together by shoulder seams extending in opposite directions along the top of the shoulderfrom the neck opening to the upper ends of the armscyes or arm holes, and by seams extending from the armpits of the garment to the waist or belted portion. The one piece collar of the garment is usually stitched to the edge of the material forming the neck opening, a slit or opening extending; down the front of the garment from and including the collar band to the crotch. V

The spreading of this slit or opening, and the neck opening forms the aperture through which the body of the wearer must pass in putting on and removing the garment, and is amply suflicient, except when drawing the garment over the shoulders or in extricating the shoulders from the garment.

Therefore, to render such operations easier, I provide the garmient with slits, openings, or ventswextending along the tops of the shoulders from the collar band to a point adjacent, but preferably, not meeting, the upper ends of the respectivejarm holes, such Specification of Letters Patent.

These vents, combined with the usual front slit or opening above-mentioned, permit the breast of the garment to be laid open or turned back, so that the blouse portion can be easily removed from the shoulders of the wearer when the shoulder vents and front slits are. unfastened, and in putting on the garment, the front pieces are drawn together over the breast of the wearer, after the arms, are inserted in the sleeves, the edges ofthe front slit fastened together, and the shoulder vents .closed byfmeans of the fastenings provided therefor. Such vents may extend approximately one-half of the distance between the neck opening and the respective arm holes, 5 though this length may vary without departing from the scope of the invention.

A doubled reinforcing strip 9 extends along the whole length of each shoulder from the top of the arm hole 5 to the neck opening 4, the free edges of the reinforcing strip being firmly secured to the rear edge of its front piece 3 between the rear end of the neck. opening thereof to the top of the arm hole 5. The rear edge of the front piece is indicated by the dotted line 3 and is inserted between the doubled or folded reinforcing strip 9. 7

Those portions of the rear edges of the reinforcing strips 9 between the lines of cross stitching 11 and the arm holes 5 are permanently secured to the adjacent front edges of the back piece 2 by stitching 11.

8, 8, it is desirable to provide a sectional collar or collar band, projecting upwardly from the respective front and back pieces along the edge of the neck opening. I have illustrated such a band made in three pieces, one of which, 13, is attached to that edge of the back piece 2 forming the neck opening 4, the

By the use of the fastenings 15, it might be possible to eliminate the fastenings 12.

Obviously, the reinforcing strips 9 might be applied to the front edges of the back piece 2 to overlap the rear edges of the

Changes may be made in the form and arrangement of the several parts described without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention.

What I claim as new, is

1. The combination in a blouse or shirt comprisingaback piece and front pieces and having armholes and a neck opening; of reinforcing strips connected to the rear edges of the respective front pieces between the neck opening and the armholes, to form extensions of the front pieces and overlap the corresponding front edges of the back piece; stitching to connect the overlapping portions of the reinforcing strips to the adjacent front edge of the back piece, from the armholes to points partway toward the neck opening to form shoulder vents; a sectional collar or collar band, one section of which is connected to the back piece at the'neck opening, and the remaining sections being secured to the respective front pieces at the .neck' opening; and means to releasably close the vents.

2. The combination in a blouse or shirt comprising a back piece and front pieces and having armholes and a neck opening; of reinforcing strips connected to the rear edges of the respective front pieces between the neck opening and the armholes, to form extensions of the front pieces and overlap the corresponding front edges of the back piece; stitching to connect the overlapping portions of the reinforcing strips to the adjacent front edge of the back piece, from the armholes to points partway toward the neck opening to form shoulder vents; a sectional collar or collar band, one section of which is connected to the back piece at the neck bpening, and the remaining sections being secured to the respective front pieces at the neck opening; the rear ends of the respective front collar sections extending across and secured to the ends of the reinforcing strips adjacent the neck opening to form extensions which overlap the front ends of the rear collar section; and means to releasably connect the overlapping portions of the collar sections.

3. The combination in a blouse or shirt comprising a back piece and front pieces and having armholes and a neck opening; of folded reinforcing strips embracing the rear edges of the respective front pieces between the armholes and neck opening, the reinforcing strips serving as extensions of the front pieces to overlap adjacent portions of the front edge of the back piece; a portion of each reinforcing strip from the armhole partway only to the neck opening, being secured to the overlapped edge of the back piece, to form shoulder vents; collar sections secured to the respective front and back pieces at the neck opening; and means to releasably connect the front ends of the rear collar section with the rear ends of the respective front collar sections.

4. The combination in a blouse or shirt, comprising a back and front pieces and hav ing arm holes and a neck opening; of folded reinforcing strips embracing the rear edges of the respective front pieces between the armholes and neck opening, the reinforcing strips serving as extensions of the front pieces to overlap the adjacent portions of the front edge of the back piece; a portion of each reinforcing strip from the armhole partway only to the neck opening, being secured to the overlapped edge of the back tions secured to the respective front and back pieces at the neck opening. 7
