PETER MULOOK, OF LEADVILLE, COLORADO.
GARMENT-SUPPORTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 761,982, dated J une 1904. Application filed August 4, 1908. Renewed May 5, 1904. Serial No. 206,577- [No model.)
To all 10/1/0711 it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, PETER MULOCK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Leadville, in the county of Lake and State of Colorado, am
of certain new and useful Imthe following is a specification.
My invention relates to that class of-garment-supporters having a buckle member comprising a rim and achape or shank upon which such rim is mounted having relatively movable side portions, each provided at one end with integral tongues and having at the opposite end a flexible hook connecting such side portions and an eye member provided with an eye for receiving such hook.
It relates further and particularly to the combination of a shouldered flexible hook upon the chape or shank of a buckle with an eye member having an eye narrower than the shouldered portion of the hook when in normal position, such-eye member being provided with suitable means for attaching a button or buttonsthereto.
The principal object of my invention is to provi dea simple, economical, and efficient garment-supporter.. s
Another object is toprovide a garment-supporter comprising an eye member with suitable means for attaching a button or buttons thereto. 7
Other and further objects of the invention will appear from an examination of the drawings and the following description and claims. The invention consists in the features, combinations, and details of construction hereinafter described and claimed. In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a view in elevation of a pair of my improved garment-supporters in operative position in connection with the end webs of apair of suspenders and showing the manner of connecting the suspenders with a pair of trousers; Fig. 2, a View in elevation of the buckle and eye members in their connected position; and Fig. 3, a perspective View showing the rim, hooked shank, and eye and button portions all separated from each fore being assembled.
In constructing a garment-supporter in acother as they appear becordance with my improvements I provide a buckle member comprising a rim a, and a shank comprising relatively movable integral side portions 6 and 0, made of wire, and therefore flexible, each provided at one end with an integral tongue (Z and e in engagement with the rim and provided at'the opposite end with an integral flexible hook f, having side shoulder portions 9 and 70, all formed of one integral wire. These shoulder portions are normally wider from outside to outside than-theeye in which they are to be held, so that when inserted therethrough they yieldinglyengage the eye, and thus prevent the accidental separation of the parts. The shank and hook being of one integral, piece of spring-wire are both flexible. This-permits the shoulder portions of the hook to be compressed so as to pass through the eye when desired. The extreme end of the hook is tapered outward toward the dersto be compressed by means of the sliding contact with the eye while the hook is passing therethrough into position.
The ends of the rim are each provided with perforations z and j, adapted to receive the laterally-extending side portions and Z of the shank upon which the rim is pivotally mounted. I
An eye inemberis provided, comprising an eye portion m narrower than the shoulder portions of the hook above described when the hook is in its extended or normal position, but wide enough to admit. such hook with its shoulders therethrough when the hook is compressed, such eye member being also provided with an integral elongated loop a, adapted to be mounted between the folds of a garment in connection with which it is to-be used and attached to such garment by means of stitches or rivets.
- To provide suitable means for riveting the eye member to the garment upon which it is to be used, the elongated loop portion is made relatively narrow throughout substantially its entire length, the extreme ends being enlarged so as to form eye portions 0 and p for receiving suitable rivets which may be of any ordinary and well-known type. The eye member is also provided at its central portion with a shoulders, so as to cause the shoul-' screw-threaded stem 9 and with a central loop or eye portion 0', having a threaded central perforation s therethrough, such threaded perforation being adapted to receive the screw-threaded stem 2, of a button a, which is mounted upon one side of the eye member for supporting the undergarments, and a second button o is provided having a central screw-threaded perforation w, adapted to be mounted upon the threaded stem of the eye member so as to be in position to be used upon the opposite side of the garment for any desired purpose.
The button 4; when used upon a pair of boys trousers-for instance, in the manner illustrated in Fig. l is in position to have the Waist buttoned thereto when it is desired to Wear it outside of the suspenders.
I claim 1. In a device of the class described, the combination of a buckle member comprising a rim, a shank'upon which such rim is mounted having relatively movable side portions provided at one end with a flexible hook upon and connecting such side portions, tongue mechanism mounted in engagement with the rim, and an eye member provided with an eye for receiving such hook, substantially as described.
2. In a device of the class described, the combination of a buckle member comprising a rim, a shank, upon which such rim ismounted having flexible side portions each provided at one end with an integral tongue in engagement With the rim, an integral flexible hook upon and connecting the opposite ends of such side portions, and an eye member provided with an eye for receiving such hook, substantially as described.
3. In a device of the class described, the combination of a buckle member comprising a rim, a shank upon which such rim is mounted having flexible side portions each provided at one end with an integral tongue in engagement with such rim, an integral flexible hook upon the opposite end of such side portions provided with side shoulders, and an eye member provided with an eye narrower than the shoulder portion of such hook, substantially as described.
4. In a device of the class described, the combination of a buckle member comprising a rim, a shank upon which such rim is mounted having relatively movable side portions each provided at one end with an integral tongue, a flexible hook upon and connecting the opposite ends of such side portions, an eye member provided with an eye for receiving such hook and having an integral loop portion provided with a screw-threaded stem, and a button provided with a screw-tlwezuled axial perforation for receiving such stem, substantially as described.
5. In a device of the class described, the combination of a buckle member comprising a rim and a shank having a hook thereon, an eye member provided with an eye for receiving such hook and having an integral loop portion provided with a serew-threiuled stem, and a button provided with a screw-threaderl axial perforation for receiving such stem, substantiall y as described.
6. In a device of the class described, the combination of a buckle provided with a hook, an eye member provided with an eye for receiving such hook and havingan inh-gral loop portion provided with a screw-threadcd stem and such eye member also having a central screw-threaded perforation therethrough, a button provided with a screw-threaded stem adapted to be mounted in such screw-tlu'eaded perforation on one side of the loop portion, and a button provided with a central screwthreaded perforation mounted upon the screwthreaded stem of such eye member, substantiall y as described.
7. In a device of the class described, the combination of a buckle member comprising a rim, a shank upon which such rim is mounted having relatively movable side pm'tions each provided at one end with an integral tongue, a flexible hook upon the opposite ends of such side portions, an eye member provided with an eye for receiving such hook and having an integral loop portion provided with a screw-threaded stem and such eye member also having a central screw-threzuled POIfOIH- tion therethrough, a button provided with a serew-thremled stem adapted to be mounted in such screw-threaded perforation on one side of the loop portion, and a button provided with a central screw-thremled perforation mounted upon the screw-threaded stem of such eye member, substantially as described.
