SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 760,203, dated May 17, 1904.
Application filed June 18, 1903. Serial Ila-161,972. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, I'IENRYHARTMANN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gloves, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to apparel, and relates particularly to gloves.
The object of the invention is to provide a glove the seams connecting the front and back sections of the fingers of which will be so disposed that they will not hurt the wearer when the hand is closed, thus rendering the glove more comfortable. To this end the fingers of a glove of my invention comprise front and back sections the widths of which at the finger-joints are proportioned to bring their connecting-seams adjacent to the backs of the fingers and below the backs of the finger-joints, the back sections being narrowed at their inner ends and the front sections being correspondingly flared at their inner ends.
In the accompanying drawings a glove of my invention is fully illustrated.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a glove of my invention, and Figs. 2 and 3 are plan views of blanks for the back and front sections of a finger of a glove of my invention.
Referring now to the drawings, 1 designates a glove which as regards its usual features may be of any desired or approved construction. As shown, the glove is of the type the back of which is made of fourchettes or separate pieces 2, secured together by seams 3. The fingers of the glove consist of front and back sections 4 and 5,connected by scams 6.
The novel features of a glove of my invention consists in so proportioning the widths of the front and back sections 4 and 5 of the glove fingers that when worn the seams 6 will be disposed adjacent to the backs of the fingers, but at the finger-joints will be below the backs thereof and at the inner ends of the glovelingers will be above the sides of the fingers. With a glove constructed in this manner it is obvious that the seamsfi Will not be drawn tightly over the joints When the hand is closed, as in gloves of this type as at present made, which causes said seams to cut into and hurt the fingers. At their inner ends, however, the fingers are near together, and connecting-seams disposed between the fingers would be apt to press against the sides of the fingers and in like manner hurt them. It is desirable, therefore, that at their inner ends the seams connecting the front and back sections 4 and 5 of the glove-fingers shall be above the sides of the fingers.
To better illustrate the construction of a glove of my invention, I have in Figs. 2 and 3 shown blanks for the front section 4 and the back section 5, respectively, of a glovefinger which will better illustrate the construction of my improved glove, the back section being shown in connection with a fourchette 2. The back section 5 of the finger is made relatively Wide over the finger-joints, and particularly over the middle joints of the fingers, and the front section 4 is made relatively narrow at the same point as compared with gloves of this type as heretofore constructed. This Will operate to bring the seam at this point below the backs of the fingers and along the sides thereof. At their inner ends the back sections 5 of the finger-blanks are narrowed, as shown at 7, and the front sections 4 are flared at their inner ends, as shown at 8. Narrowing the inner ends of the back section 5 operates to bring the seams above the sides of the fingers. Thus narrowing the back sections 5 of the fingers at their inner ends also operates to preserve the proper dimension of the glove over the hand, which would be too large if the fingers were made of the same Width throughout their length.
Experience has shown that the advantages claimed for gloves embodying my invention are real and not imaginary and that gloves of my invention are much easier than gloves of the same type as heretofore constructed.
I claim as my invention A glove, the back of which comprises fourehettes which also form the back sections of the second and third fingers of the glove, and said glove also comprising separate front sections for the second and third fingers, the widths of the finger-sections being proportioned to bring their lateral connecting-seams below the backs of the fingers at the middle joints thereof, the back finger-sections being I my invention I aflix my signature, in presence narrowed at their inner ends and the front of two subscribing Witnesses, this 16th clay of finger-sections being correspondingly flared June, A. D. 1903.
to bring their lateral connecting-seams above HENRY HARTMANN. 5 the sides of the fingers at their bases, sub- Witnesses: stantially as described. CLARK D. OSBORN,
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as E. M. KLATCHER.
