PATENT OFFICE.
HAT-FASTENER.
e SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters'Patent No. 753,314, dated March 1, 1904.
Application led September 15, 1902. Serial No. 123,481. (No niodel.)
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, HANNAH V. RICKARD, a
citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Bayonne, in the county of Hudson.
and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spring- Clamps for Head-Coverings, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to means for securing head-coverings, hats, caps, and the like to the head of the wearer; and its object is the production of a spring-clamp which may be easily attached to the said coverings, hats, and the like and embedded in the hair or clamped to the head of the wearer.
Referring to the drawings, Figures 1 and 2 represent, respectively, the side and the front view of a ligure with my invention in place. Fig. 3 is a plan of the invention on an enlarged scale. Figs. Aand 5 show, respectively, a side and top view of Fig. 3. Eig. 6 represents a side view of a sliding carrier for the clamp on an enlarged-scale. Fig. 7 is a top view of Fig. 6. Fig. 8 is a front view of the sliding carrier with a portion of the spring-clamp and a fastening-pin. Fig. 9 is a section of Fig. 7 on the line w.
applied to various forms of headgear for either men, women, or children. It will also be noted that the fastening-pins C, which in the drawings are shown as ordinary safety-pins, can be dispensed with and the carriers directly sewed to the hat or cap, and also that the'carrier could be left od and the clamp sewed in place on the head-covering.
To use my invention the fastening-pins are pinned to the lining or other portion of the hat or cap, &c. after which the sliding carriers are adjusted on the spring-clamps to suit the shape of the hat. Then the ends, as A', of the clamps are opened and adjusted to the head or embedded in the hair, when the 'hat will be securely held in place.
Having described my invention, I claiml. In a device for securing a head-covering the combination, oi' a clamp, a sliding carrier thereon, main walls on the carrier, a bridge connecting the said walls, Vwings extending from the walls to hold the carrier on the said clamp, and means connected to the said bridge to secure the carrier to a head-covering.
2. In a device for securing a head-covering the combination, of a clamp, a sliding carrier thereon, main walls on the carrier, a bridge connecting the said walls, wings extending from the walls to hold the carrier on the said clamp, and a fastening-pin extending from the said bridge tosecurethe carrier to a head-covering.
Signed at New York, county and State of New York, this 4th day of September, 1902.
