PATENT OFFICE.
GARNIENT-BAEVLT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 751,272, dated February 2, 1904. i
Application filed May 18, 1903. Serial No. 157,574. (No model.)
To all whom, itin/ay concern/.f
Be it known that I, J ULIUs EWALD, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and.
county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Garment-Belts, of which the following is a `specification.
Itfurther consists of ,means for adapting the` belt to be worn both on the exterior'and interiorv of a garment.
Figures 1 and 2 represent partial elevations of portion of atgarment having a belt embodying my invention applied thereto in different positions. Fig. 3 represents a vhorizontal section thereof. Fig. i-represents perspective views of the endrportions of the belt.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts `in the figures.
Referring to the drawings, A designates the waistband of a pair of trousers, and B designates the usual loops on the exterior thereof.
C designates openings in the sides of said band, and E designates tubes on the interior thereof, said tubes being formed in the present case by the fabric of said band and the lining thereof and being in communication with the openings C and having their inner ends open, as at D.
F designates a belt, having at one end the loop G, and H designates a buckle, whose prongs pierce the fabric of the front length or member of the loop G, so that the points of said prongs are on the back of said member, as is also the cross-bar H' of said buckle, whereby when the buckle is subjected to draft the cross bar H controls and retains the prongs in the fabric and prevents displacement of the buckle. In the other end of the belt is a hook L, which is adapted to engage with the front cross-bar K of the buckle, by which provision the belt may be buckled and accordingly held in closed position.
It will be seen that the belt may be worn exteriorly in the usual way on the waistband, as shown in Fig. 1. If, however, it is desired to wear it on the interior of thegarment, especially the front portion thereof, its end portions are passed through the openings C and the tubes E, and so are located on the inner side of the band. The hook is then engaged with the cross-bar K, thus buckling V`and securing the belt, as in Fig. 3.
It is evident that the buckle may-be adjusted the length of the loop G relatively to the size of the wearer, and the back member of said loop serves to cover the buckle and prevent the same from contacting with an inner garment, as most plainly shown in Figs. 3 and 4.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to lsecure by Letters Patent, is-
l. A garment-waistband provided with beltloops at its rear and tubular portions at each side of its front, said tubular portions opening interiorly at their front ends and exteriorly at their rear ends.
2. A garment-fastening device comprising a waistband having exterior belt engaging means at its rear and tubular portions adjacent its front, said tubular portions opening,
, JULIUs EWALD.
