PIPE OR SPOUT HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 750,516, dated January 26, 1904.
Application filed May 7, 1902. Serial No. 106,309. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J OHN VALENTINE ABRON- SKI, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Pipe or Spout Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to pipe or spout holders; and the object of the same is to provide a device of this class having a rigid jaw with an inner reduced corrugated biting edge adapted to embrace and be effectually and rigidly clamped to a spout or pipe and capable of having the latter applied thereto in a convenient manner with out requiring a detachment of the holder for such a purpose.
The invention consists in the construction and arrangement of the several parts, which will be more fully hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure l is a top plan View of the improved holder, showing the pipe applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the improved holder. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the holder, showing a slight modification in the construction thereof.
Similar numerals of reference are employed to indicate corresponding parts in the several views.
The numeral 1 designates a jaw which is approximately semicircular in contour and having the ends extended in the arc of a circle, so that the entire jaw will be adapted to embrace more than half the circle. The inner curved edge of the jaw at opposite points is provided with a series of corrugations 2, and said corrugated portions of the jaw are tapered inwardly and slightly sharpened. When the pipe is clamped between the opposite corrugated portions of the jaw, the inner-corrugated end, of one jaw is firmly impinged against the outer surface of the pipe opposite the other corrugated portion of the jaw, and if the pipe be corrugated or fluted the corrugations or flutes thereof will fit within or 00- incide with the corrugations or flutes of the edge portion of the jaw engaged, and thereby the pipe will be firmly held in applied position within the jaw. One extremity of the 5 jaw is provided with a clamping-screw 3,which has its inner terminal brought to bear in firm engagement with the adjacent portion of the pipe to force the latter firmly against the opposite corrugated portion of thejaw, as clearly shown by Fig. 1. The jaw, as shown by Figs.
1 and 2, also has a securing-shank 4, which is flat and of sufiicient length to be driven into a wall or other support to which the pipe is adapted to be secured. In Fig. 3 a slightly- 6O modified form of the shank is shown and consists of a threaded rod 5, and it is proposed to use this particular shank when the bracket is secured to a wooden or other fibrous support. The diameter of the, inner reduced portion of 5 the arcuate edge is great enough to permit the latter to fit loosely upon the pipe, or, in other words, will always be materially greater than the diameter of the pipe held thereby to permit a ready application of the pipe thereto 7 and to effect an adjustment of said pipe and retention by impingement thereagainst by the clamping-screw and firm engagement at the opposite point with a part of the inner corrugated edge of the jaw.
Having thus fully described the invention, what is claimed as new is- A pipe-hanger comprising an open curved rigid jaw having an extent greater than a semicircle and formed with an inner reduced cor- 8O rugated biting edge and a securing-shank projecting therefrom, and a clamping screw mounted in one terminal of the jaw.
