To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, HAROLD H. Bnvnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Portland, in the county of Multnomah and State of Gregon, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pipe-Vises, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in pipe vises and particularly to portable pipe vises, and has for its object to provide means for quickly and securely attaching a pipe vise to the work-bench or other support, so that it may be readily detached when it is desired to remove it.

'The improvements hereinafter set forth and fully illustrated in the accompanying drawings, are designed to attain the object of the invention.

Referring; to the drawings: Figure 1 illustrates the vise in side elevation, attached to a support ready for use. Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the vise showing the gripping plate. Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the clamp member. Fig. 4. shows a modified form of clamping mechanism in side elevation.

In the drawing 1 designates a pipe-vise of usual construction which maybe supplanted if desired by any form of vise. As is shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the vise 1 is mounted upon and is preferably made integral with a flat base 2 whose lower surface 3 is disposed in a horizontal plane. An apron 4: depends from and is integral with the base 2. The apron is preferably disposed in. alinement with the front of the vise 1, and is provided upon its rearmost side with pointed gripping teeth 5 adapted to be forced into the work-bench or other support 6 to prevent twisting of the vise when in use. preferable to make the teeth of pyramid form, so as to present comparatively broad facets thereon as a resistance against twisting through the wooden support which is aenerally used. It is also desirable to pro vide a few wedge shaped teeth as at 7 as a further precaution to prevent twisting.

A. clamp member is shown at 12 corresponding to the apron 4. and oppositely disposed. thereto, and provided with teeth 5 and 7 of the form previously described and for the same purpose. The upper edge of the clamp member 12 is pendantly attached to a flat base-plate 13, whose under surface 1% is in horizontal alinement with the surface 3 of the base member 2. Bosses 8 with. orifices 9 are also provided on the base plate 13 similar to those on the base member 2 and in coaxial alinement therewith, the square recesses 10 being omitted.

The bolts 11 are made long enough to pass through the orifices 8 in the bosses on base members 2 and 13 when used on the widest support upon which it is intended to attach the vise. To clamp the members 4'. and 12 against the sides of the support 6 threaded nuts are provided for the bolts 11 at 15.

In Fig. -1 is shown a modification in the method of clamping the members 4 and 12 against the support 6 and oomprehends the use of screws 16 having handles 17 and threadedly mounted in the bosses 8 thereby eliminating the necessity of the use of a wrench. when attaching the vise in place upon its support 01' when removing it therefrom.

What is claimed is The combination with a vise of the character shown and described an apron extendinp; from the base thereof in substantially the same plane as the body of the vise and provided. with holding teeth. two sleeve members formed integrally with said apron and projecting at right angles therefrom at the opposite ends thereof, a clamp member comprising two sleeve members threaded interiorly and h aving a flat base plate integral therewith and provided with holding teeth on its surface, and holdinn bolts adapted for said sleeve members and threaded at one end. substantially as described.
