Description

L. V. ARUNSON.
COMBINATION WRENCH. APPLICATION FILED JULY 12, 1009.
9& Patented Dec. 14, 1999.
WITNESSES E/Vm" Y m'omvero,
UNITED STATES PATENT @FFIQE.
LOUIS V. ARONSON, OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY.
COMBINATION-WRENCH.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 14, 1999.
Application filed July 12, ,1909. Serial No. 507,053.
, and consists in a combination wrench composed oftwo or more wrench blades adjustable upon each other and capable of being rigidly secured to each other in position for use through the medium of a bolt and clamp as "hereinafter particularly described and claimed.
The object of my invention is to provide a compact portable combination wrench containing two or more wrench blades to. fit
different sized nut heads wherein the blade desired t be used may be withdrawn from the'gang and adjusted in the line of the other blades which operate as a handle. By this'construction, I secure not only a compact portable pocket wrench capable of fitting. various sized nuts, but also one in which the wrench blades notin use operate as a handle for the one in use, securing increased leverage.
By my improved construction, when the wrench blade is properly adjusted, it is impossible for it to slip upon the other blades and further, when the clamp is released, the respective blades permit of the desired ready adjustment to any position.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view of my improved combination wrench. Fig. 2 is a side view of the same.
Similar letters of reference refer to like parts throughout the specification and drawings.
In the accompanying drawings, I illustrate one form of my invention as comprising four wrench blades in combination a, b, c, and d, which are secured together by means of the bolt e, headed at one end and provided* with a square shank e and a reduced screw-threaded portion 6 at the other end. Upon the screw-threaded portion 6' a screw-threaded thumb nut f is provided.
9 indicates an elongated slot provided in each of the wrench blades through which the square portion 6 of the headed bolt passes and which prevents said wrenchesfrom turning upon each other, but allows the same to be longitudinally adjusted, one upon the other.
By loosening the thumb nut, anyone of the bladesmay be readily adjusted upon the other blades, either fully extended as shown in the dotted lines in Fig. 2, or partially extended and then secured. By forming the bolt shank square in cross section so as to fit closely within the slots of the respective wrench blades, the blades, are held firmly against independent lateral movement, but of course it is to be understood that the term square is employed to indicate a, construction which would perform this function readily and yet which would permit the removal-of any of the wrenches shouldit be necessary to replace the same or straighten a wrench blade if the same should be slightly twisted.
I claim;
A combination wrench comprising a plurality of different wrench members having handle parts resting one upon the other for independent sliding movement and each being provided with alined elongated slots, a threaded bolt having a square stem portion fitting theslots and passing therethrough,
and a clamping nut on the end of the bolt adapted to engage the outermost wrench member and to clamp the various members 'securel in their adjusted position, the square portion preventing the members from turning one upon the other, substantially as described.
This specification signed and witnessed this 10th day of July, 1909.
