To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANTS S'rmmnnnnc, a subject of the King of Norway, residing at Aspedammen, near Fredrikshald, Norway, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stone Dressing Tools; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to stone dressing tools of the kind, where the cutting head is formed with a plurality of steels, the rear ends of which abut against a hammer block,
and has for its object by means of a nut threaded upon the hammer block in conjunction with clamping jaws to secure the steels in an easily detachable manner to the block.
A practical embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawings, in which one of the hammer heads is formed as a point hammer and the other as a groove hammer.
In the accompanying drawing Figure 1 is a side view of a tool embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal section on the line 1-1 of Fig. 1. Figs. 3 and 4: are end views and Fig. 5 is a vertical section on the line IIII of Fig.
The hammer head B has preferably a square cross section with rounded side edges, which are provided with screw-threads engaged by a nut G. A space is left between the flat sides of the head and the cavity of the nut in which are placed clamping jaws D (Fig. 5). The cutters A are arranged between these clamps D within the nut in such a manner that their rear ends abut against the end of the hammer head. The outer ends of the clamps are slightly bent toward the center of the head and closely fit the inclined surfaces H and I of the adjacent row of cutters, which are pressed together and tight- Specification of Letters Patent.

ened on the head by turning the nut so as to move inward. The clamps D are provided on each side of the nut G with projections F and G, between which the nut is caused to move, whereby the clamps will be carried with the nut in its axial movement. This tightening device has the same arrangement and function for the groove hammer as well as for the point hammer. But in the latter case four tightening clamps D are necessary to obtain a sufficient fastening of the cutters.
\Vhat I claim is:
1. A stone dressing tool comprising a solid head substantially square in cross section and having rounded, screw-threaded corners, a plurality of cutters abutting against the ends of the head, clamping jaws slidably mounted on two opposite sides of the head projecting beyond the ends thereof, and a nut surrounding the jaws and engaging the screw threads and cooperating with the clamps to hold the cutters against said ends.
2. A stone dressing tool comprising ahammer head substantially square in cross section and having rounded, screw-threaded corners, a plurality of cutters abutting against the ends of the head, a cylindrical nut mounted on the screw threads, clamping jaws mounted on two opposite sides of-the head and projecting beyond the ends thereof, each jaw having a flat face resting on the head, a curved face engaging the nut, and flanges at both ends engaging the nut to prevent axial movement of the latter relatively to the jaws, said jaws having wedgeshaped ends corresponding with wedgeshaped faces on the front ends of the adjacent cutters, whereby an inward movement of the nut and jaws causes a lateral pressure on the cutters.
