Be it known that I, GEORGE W. BUSH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Altoona, in the county of Blair, State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shade and Curtain Brackets; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such aswill enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

The object of my invention is to provide a combined curtain and shade support which shall be simple of construction, cheap of manufacture, and which may be secured in place without the use of nails or screws, as ordinarily used.

In the drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which like letters of reference indicate similar parts in the several views, Figure l is a side elevation of my invention when in use. Figs. 2, 3, 4:, and 5 are views of the various elements. Fig. 6 is a detail view showing the driving-points.

In the manufacture of a support in accordance with my invention I provide an arm a, at one end of which are elbows h and c, the former projecting upwardly and the latter downwardly therefrom, each provided with a point, as shown at d and 6, turned in the direction of the arm a and adapted to be driven into the window-casing for holding the arm a in position.

The points 01 and e are provided with barbs d to prevent their ready withdrawal. It will be noticed that the downwardly-projecting portion of the elbow c is turned upwardly at a point below the arm a in such a manner as to prevent the point e from falling directly beneath the point d, thus enabling the arm a to be held more securely in position and also lessening the likelihood of splitting the body into which the points are driven. Pivoted to the arm a at a point near its outer end is a support f, provided with an elbow g and barbed point h at its free end and also pro= vided with an enlargement t, having a socket j at a point near the elbow, which said socket is adapted to receive an end of the pivot of a shade-roller.

At the outer end of the arm a is a guide 70, adapted to receive and support a supplemental arm a, slidably mounted thereon, and also provided with a guide Z at its inner end, loosely inclosing the arm a.

At the outer end of the supplemental arm a are arc-shaped jaws m, extending upwardly and downwardly therefrom, adapted to receive a curtain-pole n, and slidably arranged upon the uppermost of which is an extension 0, of are shape, conforming to the arc of the jaw upon which it is mounted and adapted to encircle the pole 11 when it is extended, ex-' cept at the lowermost point of the latter, where an opening his left, through which the curtain may fall.

The extension is loosely held upon the upper of the jaws m by guides 19 and q, one formed upon the outer end of the jaw and the other upon the inner end of the extension. A suitable finger-piece r is also secured to the extension, whereby it may be operated.

It will be readily understood that in operation a pair of the above-described supports are used, and it will also be understood that I may omit the enlargement or otherwise modify my invention without departing from the spirit thereof.

Having thus described my invention,what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- A shade and curtain bracket comprising a stationary arm, driving-points upon one end of said arm, one of the said driving-points 1yingin the plane of the arm and the other beingoffset, a support pivoted to the stationary arm provided with a driving-point at its free end and-a recessed enlargement adjacent thereto, a supplemental arm slidably arranged upon the stationary arm, a guide secured to the inner end of the supplemental arm and encircling the stationary arm, upwardly and downwardly extending arc-shaped jaws upon the outer end of the supplemental arm, a slidable arc-shaped extension mounted upon the upper jaw conforming to the arc thereof, guides upon the jaw and the extension for holding the two in loose engagement, and a fingerpiece upon the extension whereby it may be operated.
