To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that LGHARLEs W. GRAY,a citizen of the United States, residing at Virginia City, in the county of Madison and State of Montana, have invented a new and useful Door-Secu rer,of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to portable door-se curers; and one of the principal objects thereof is to provide means for effectually closing a door and which can be applied and removed without marring the appearance of either the door or the jamb. V
A further object of the invention is to provide a portable door-securer which can be conveniently carried upon the person for instantaneous use.
A still further object of the invention is to provide means for interlocking the parts, so that they cannot become accidentally detached.
Further objects and ad vantages, as Well as the novel details of construction, will be specifically referred to in the following description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a horizontal sectional view through a door, its jamb, and the door-securer. Fig. 2 is a detail perspective view of the door-secnrer; and Fig. 3 is a sectional view through the securer-sleeve, the blade being shown in elevation.
In the preferred embodiment of my invention, 1 designates a blade or shank adapted to be inserted between the edges of the door 2 and the jamb 3. The terminally-disposed angnlarly-projecting teeth or spurs are adapted to be forced into the door-jamb 3, so as to prevent any displacement thereof when said blade is interposed between the doorand the jamb.
In order to prevent the opening of the door, I provide a movable locking member comprising an adjustable sleeve 4, having a terminal enlargement or head 5, formed with a triangular recess 6 at one end of the longitudinal slot 7, coextensive with the blade, so that the said blade can be retracted into the said slot, into which the free end of the blade or shank 1 projects.

It will be observed that the opposite edges of the blade are provided with duplicate notches, so as to permit the blade to be reversed, as occasion may demand.
When not'in use, the blade will be retracted within its sheath, which is formed by the sleeve, and the engaging end of the dog will be caused to engage one of the notches 12 in the plate 1, thereby providing means for looking the blade within the sleeve so that the teeth 11 will be held within the recess 6, so as not to mar or injure the teeth by contact with foreign substances. As soon, however, as it is deemed necessary to release the plate it can be accomplished simply by pushing upon the dog tothrow it out of engagement with the notch 12, which it engages.
What I claim is- A door-secnrer comprising two members, one of which is a sleeve member and the other a reversible slidable member, the sleeve member being formed with a slot having a recess and a longitudinal edge slot communicating with the first-named slot, the firstnamed slot being coextensive with the sliding member movable therein and retractible within the slot, a spur carried by the sliding member to engage the recess and provided with oppositely-disposed edge teeth, a longi tudinally-disposed locking-dog pivoted in the edge slot and having a tooth-engaging end and a free operating end, a longitudinallyextending lip carried by the sleeve member, and a spring interposed between the lip and the operating end of the dog, said lip also acting as a stop to limit the movement oi the operating end of the dog.
