Be it known that I, JULIUS A. FLEsoH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ohicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door Stops 0r Fasteners, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact specification.

My invention relates to devices for holding a swinging or hinged door in any desired position, and it is more particularly designed for performing the twofold function of holding the door either open or closed.

The object of my invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive device which may be readily secured to the floor and will serve for holding the door at any degree of opening, for preventing it being closed, or, when desired, to so hold it as to prevent it from being opened from the outside.

I/Vith these ends in view my invention consists in certain features of novelty herein after described with reference to the accompanying drawings andmore particularly pointed out in the claims.

In the said drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved device, showing the door in engagement therewith, the door being open. Fig. 2 is a similar view illustrating the manner of holding the door closed, and Fig.

is a plan view of the device.

The device consists of a wedge-shaped portion 1, which is preferably constructed with a sharp point, so as to be inserted under the door, even though the latter is arranged very close to the floor or sill, and yet the upper side of this wedge is formed at a sufficient angle to engage with doors 2, arranged at the maximum elevation from the floor. The lower side of the wedge is so formed as to rest flat upon the floor 3 when possible. The rear end of this wedge 1 is provided with means for securing it to the floor in such a manner that it may be readily detached when desired and as readily adjusted to another position and again secured in place. Such means, preferably, consist of a hinged portion 4, carrying a spur 5 on its under side. This portion 4 is secured to the wedge 1 by means of two perforated ears 6 and a pintle'or pin 7, passing through them and through a tongue 8, formed on the wedge 1, or any other convenient means of hingin g the portion 4 to the wedge may be resorted to. The portionv carrying the spur 5 is hinged to the wedge in order that the wedge may first be placed flat upon the floor and then inserted under the door the necessary extent before the spur is forced into engagement with the floor, the hinged portion 4 being turned upward until the wedge 1 has been adjusted, whereupon it may be turned down and the spur forced into the floor by pressure of the foot. To the end that no part of the portion 4 will come into engagement with the flooring before the spur 5 has been driven home, the inner corner of the portion 4 is offset or beveled, as shown at 9. The spur 5 is slightly inclined rearwardly away from the door in order that pressure against the door will tend to increase the hold of the spur upon the floor.

When the device is to be employed for holding the door closed, the point of the wedge 1 may be driven under the door on top of the sill, as shown in Fig. 2, if possible, and if not possible to insert it under the door it may be placed against the extreme lower edge of the door, as will be understood, and the portion 4 then turned down and the spur forced into the floor.

In order that the spur may be readily disengaged when desired, the portion 4 is preferably constructed in the form of a loop in order that the finger may be inserted therein for withdrawing the spur.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new therein, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. As a new and useful article of manufacture, a door stop consisting of a portion adapted to engage with the door and having the hinged portion 4 provided with a spur adapted to engage in the floor and having its inner corner or end oifset or beveled, substan-- tially as set forth.

2. As a new and useful article of manufacture, a door stop consisting of a wedge-shaped portion and a portion in the form of a loop hinged to said wedge-shaped portion at its upper inner edge and 7 being provided on its under side with a spur adapted to engage in the floor, substantially as set forth.
