PATENT OFFICE.
SAFETY-HOOK.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 743,606, dated November 10, 1903. Application filed March 30, 1903. Serial No. 150,335. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, RUDOLF BRUNO WITTE, a subject of the King of Saxony, residing at Leipzig-Stotteritz, Saxony, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Safety-Hooks, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The present invention relates to safetyhooks for the suspension of hats and garments, the object being to prevent their detachment from the peg by unauthorized persons.
The invention consists of the details of construction hereinafter set forth, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
Inorder to render the present invention easily intelligible, reference is bad to the accompanying drawings, in'which similar letters of reference denote similar parts throughout the several views.
Figure 1 is a perspective View of the device, showing the suspension of the hat and garment. Fig. 2 is a front View of the hook in an open condition, and Fig. 3 is a vertical longitudinal section through the center of the book.
The device consists of the arms I) b, pivoted together after the manner of scissors at a and having upper hooks (1 cl and lower hooks g g. The upper'hooks d d are so formed that the hook cl grasps over the hook d, Fig. 8, while I the lower hooks g g are turned inwardly toward each other, one being adapted to re ceive the suspension-band of the coat and having a flat outer surface, as at f, against which the bent round edge of the rim of the hat may be clamped by the other hook, g, so that the hat cannot be taken from the hook, but will not be damaged. by the clamping action of the two hooks owing to the flat surface f against which it is pressed. When the coat has been suspended and the hat-rim clamped inv position, the two arms are locked in the closed position by means of a screw is, threaded into the plate I) and working in a slot in the plate-b. The rear end of the screw is covered by a cap 8, and the front end is squared or of other form to receive a key 72, Fig. l, andis also surrounded by a suitable cap we", having an opening in the top just large enough to receive the key. When the device has been locked in position, the ke3 is withdrawn.
I claim as my invention 1. A safety rhooktfor the suspension of clothes and hats in public wardrobes and the like consisting of the plates 1) b pivotally connected together and having upper and lower hooks d d and g g to interlock, the upper hooks embracing the peg and the lower hooks being formed to receive the coat-hanger and to clamp the rim of the hat substantially as described.
2. A safety-hook for the suspension of garments and hats as specified consisting of the plates 19 b pivotally connected together and having upper and lower interlocking hooks d dand g g, the hook d overgripping the hook d and the hook g having a plate fwith which the hook g cooperates to clamp the rim of the hat, and a clamping-screw k, adapted to be turned by a key to clamp the parts in the closed position substantially as described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses.
RUDOLF BRUNO WITTE.
