UNITED STATES FRANZ WAGENBLAST,
PATENT" OFFICE.
OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
HOLDER FOR HATS, COATS, UMBRELLAS, 80C.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 603,544, dated May 3, 1898 Application filed October 1, 1 8 9 '7.
T aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FRANZ WAGENBLAST, of New York city, in the county and State of NewYorlghave invented a new and Improved Holder for Hats, Coats, Umbrellas, &c., of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved holder for hats, coats, umbrellas, and other articles and arranged to enable a person to conveniently hang up the desired article and securely lock it in place, so as to prevent removal by unauthorized persons, the device being serviceable in hotels, restaurants, theatres, and other public places.
The invention consists of certain parts and details and combinations of the same, as will be fully described hereinafter and then pointed out in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this-specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a front elevation of the improvement in a closed position. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the improvement with the hat-ring open, and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the hook on the lower end of the back.
The improved holder illustrated in the drawings is provided with back A, adapted to be fastened by screws B or other suitable means to a wall or other support, or the said back may be hung on a hook O, as indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 2, the upper end of the back being for this purpose provided with an opening A for engagement with the hook.
On the lower end of the back A is formed 4 or secured a hook D, upon which a garment upper end thereof, as is plainly indicated in thedrawings. The hat-ring G is adapted to receive the crown of a hat, so that the rim thereof is at the back of the ring, the extenserial No. 658,733. (No model.)
sion G and the arm Gfthat is, between the back A and the hat-ring when the latter is in a closed position. I
Now it will be seen that when the device is used a person first hangs his coat or other garment with the usual loop upon the hook D ati q the time the hat-rin g Gis open and then .pla'o es the hat into the hat-ring in the manner described and as shown in Fig. 2, after which the operator swings the hat-ring shut and by the use of a key shoots out the bolt F into the keeper E, so as to securely lock the hatring in place, thereby'closing the hook D, so
the hook A, the free end thereof supporting a ring H, adapted to be hooked over the hook D after the chain is passed around the article to support the same.
The device is very serviceable in public places-such as restaurants, hotels, ballrooms, and the likedispensing entirely with the unsightly boxes now employed for keeping garments, 85c.
It is understood that after the articles are securely locked in position on the holder the operator removes the key from the lock F and retains the same until it is again desired to remove the articles from the holder.
In order to avoid confusion, the key and the lock are numbered correspondingly.
Having thus fully described my invention,
I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A holder for hats and the like, comprising a bar or plate having on its front face lugs at one end and a hook at the other end, a hat-ring provided with oppositely-projecting arms, one of which is hinged to the lugs of the bar or plate, the other arm being provided with an offset, and a lock for locking the offset arm of the ring to the hook of the bar or plate, substantially as described.
2. A holder for hats and the like, consisting of a bar or plate having on its front face ried by the offset end of the arm of the ring lugs at one end and a hook at the other end, and adapted to engage with its bolt the keeper said hook being formed with a keeper, a hat of the hook, substantially as described.
ring provided with oppositely projecting FRANZ WAGENBLAST. 5 arms, one of which is provided with an offset, Witnesses:
the ring being hinged by means of the other THEO. G. HOSTER,
arm to the lugs of the back, and a look car- JNO. M. BITTER.
