Description
, H.'l. DAVIS. GARMENT HANGER.
APP LICATION FILED AUG-2, 1915.
1,155,575. Patented Dec.28;1915;
HAROLD I. DAVIS, OF ERIE, PENNSYLVANIA.
GARMENT-HANGER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 28, 1915.
Application filed August 2, 1915. Serial No. 43,285.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HAROLD I. DAVIS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Erie, in the county of Erie and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment- Hangers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, forming part of this specification.
My invention relates to garment hangers, and particularly to that class of garment hangers adapted to receive an entire suit of garments.
The object of my invention is to so construct a garment hanger that the portion thereof designed to receive the coat will 00- operate with the other parts of the device in opening the jaws of the trousers clamp. These and other features of my invention arehereinafter fully set forth and pointed out and are illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l, is a side view in elevation of my improved garment hanger. Fig. 2, is a transverse section of the same, on the line mw in Fig. 1, looking in the direction of the arrow.
In these drawings, A, indicates a curved bar adapted to be inserted into the shoulders of a coat, and A, indicates a hook secured in the intermediate portion thereof for the purpose of suspending the hanger. I secure to the bar A, two members B B, and connect the lower ends of said members B B, by means of a bar C, secured thereto by means of screws or nails 5 b. Upon the intermediate portion of the members B, I mount spring pressed jaws B, and connect the lower ends thereof by means of a bar C, which coiperate with the bar C, as hereinafter described. The upper ends of the jaws B, are connected by means of a bar D, secured thereto by means of nails or screws, or as may be desired.
In operation when it is desired to place a garment between the bars C and C, the hanger bar A, and the bar D, are grasped between the fingers and thumb, and by means of pressure exerted thereon, the clamp-bars C and C, are moved apart suificiently to receive a garment therebetween, when the pressure on the bars A and D, is released, thereby permitting the bars C and C, to be firmly clamped against the garment; a coat can then be placed upon the bar A, in the usual manner.
It is obvious from the foregoing, that the exact construction of the clamping mechanism herein shown and described, may be materially changed without departing from the spirit of my invention.
Therefore what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is
In a device of the character described, a coat hanger bar, a pair of clamp jaws rigidly secured thereto, a clamp bar secured to and connecting the lower ends thereof, a pair of spring pressed jaws mounted on each of said clamp jaws, a clamp bar secured to and connecting the lower ends thereof, and a bar secured to and connecting the upper ends thereof, and adapted to co-act with said coat hanger bar for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
HAROLD I. DAVIS.
