Zallllllll FFTE= I COMBINED HAT, oon'r, AND rnousnns BACK.
I Specification or Letters iratent "P t t June 4, 1913,
Application filed August-27, 1917. Serial No. 188,516.
I of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Hat, Coat, and Trousers Racks, of which the following is a specification containing a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.
My lnventlon relates to an improved com bined hat, coat and trousers rack, and consists in the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter described and particularly designated in the appended claim.
The object of my invention is to provide a compact, cheap and simple device which will be reliable and efiicient during use as a combined hat, coat and trousers hanger or rack; and which will keep the trousers creased when same are hung between the flexible arms of the device.
In the drawings,
Figure 1 is a top plan view of my invention.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged section through the flexible arms of the device, the section being taken on the line 33 of Figs. 1 and 2.
Fig. at is a side-elevation of a modified form of the supporting bracket, and Fig. 5 is a front elevation of the latter.
The numeral 1 designates a supportingbracket, which (as shown in Figs. 1 and 2) consists of an integral piece of sheet metal doubled upon itself at about the center of its length and thereat provided with vertically-alined hinge-knuckles 2 having vertically-alined bearings in which is removably located the vertical pintle 3 of the S-shaped combined pintle and hat and coat hangerarm 4:.
The said supporting-bracket 1 is to be secured to the wall, or to the inside of a closet door, or elsewhere as desired, by means of the oppositely-pro-jecting flanges 5, which are perforated at 6 for the passage of suitable screws or nails used in securing the bracket to the desired object during use.
The upper end of the said part 4 is provided with a ball or kn'ob 7 of finished appearance, upon which the hat may be hung without danger of injury to hat.
A metalli hinge-leaf 8 is provided with a hinge-knuckle 9, which fits loosely in an opening formed to receive it between said ver'tically-alined hinge-knuckles 2 of the said supporting-bracket 1, and the said vertical pintle 3 of the said combined S-shaped pintle and hat and garment hanger-arm l passes loosely through the vertically-alined pintle-bearings of the said knuckles 2 and 9, and thereby pivotally connects the said hinge-leaf 8 to the said supporting bracket.
There are rovided a series of pairs of parallel flexible-arms 10, which may be made of Wood or metal, and which are spaced apart by means of short blocks or pieces of material 11 at one end, and all secured firmly together by suitable bolts or similar clamping-devices 12 passed through apertures in the said flexible arms, the blocks 11, and the said hinge-leaf 8, which latter is located and clamped between the central flexiblearms, as shown more clearly in Fig. 1.
Said pairs of flexible-arms 10 are thus detachably hinged to the said supportingbracket 1, so that the free ends of said arms may be swung around in a horizontal plane, and be used as a hanger for trousers or other articles such as ladies skirts, which are to be placed in the spaces between said arms, as indicated by the dotted lines in Fig. 3, the resiliency of said arms acting to force the latter into yielding contact with such articles, with the result that the articles placed between said arms will be pressed thereby and caused to retain their proper shape, until removed for wearing as garments.
My invention, when not in use, may be knocked down and folded into smaller space, by removing the vertical pintle 2, and thereby detachin the flexible arms from their supporting-bracket.
Owing to the fact that the said flexible arms are hinged to said bracket, as described above, the arms carrying the garments may be swung in any desired direction, out of the way.
In Figs. 4: and 5, the supporting-bracket is made of .an integral piece of material with horizontal arms 13 having alined perforations 14L through which the vertical pintle 3 is passed, to detachably hinge the said knuckle 9 of the said hinge-leaf 8 to the bracket, when this form of bracket is used.
The operation and advantages of the invention will be readily apparent, with further description.
Small changes in the form and proportion of the parts of the device may be madeby a skilled mechanic Without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.
I claim:
An improved hat, coat and trousers rack, consisting of a suitable supporting-bracket having vertically=a1ined pintle-bearings and means whereby said bracket may be secured to a Wall or other object; a hinge member having a perforated knuckle and located between said pintle-bearings of said bracket; a series of flexible arms; blocks placed ibetween said arms to space same apart at like ends; bolts for clamping said blocks and said arms together; and an S-shaped combined pintle andgarinent hanger-arm, having its pintle passed through said vertically-allned bearings of said bracket and through the perforation of the said hinge-member, to hingedly connect said hinge-member to the said bracket, While the horizontal portion of the said arm extends above the plane of said flexible arms, to act as a swinging hat hanger or as a hanger for other articles.
In testimony whereof, I have'signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
GEORGE F. vlVIoDO'NiiLD.
