HERSCHEL B. DyAKER, OF PLAINVILIAE, CONNECTICUT.
COAT AND HAT HOOK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 394,637, dated December 18, 1888.
I Application filed February 24, 1888. Serial No. 265,151. (No model.)
.T0 aZZ whom it mag/,concern- Be it known that I, I'IERSCHEL B. BAKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Plainville, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Coat and Hat Hooks, of which the following,I is a specification.
Hy invention relates to improvements in coat and hat hooks; and the objects of my invention are to improve the `general efciency of the article and to reduce its bulk in transportation.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a front elevation of my coat and hat hook with the front end of the bracket-arm in vertical section, and Fig. 2 is a side elevation of said hook.
A designates the main portion or body of the hook, having a base-plate, foto rest against the wall or other support, which base may be secured to said support in any ordinary manner. As shown, the fa'isteninW-screw l) is secured to the main portion A in the process of casting.
B designates the upper arm, which is designed for use as a hat-hook. At the front end of the body is the bracket-arm c, perforated vertically, as shown in Fig. l.
O is the attachable and detachable coat-sup porting bar, havin g on its under side a pin or tenon, d, Fig. 1, which tits snugly into the hole in the bracket-arm c. In order to prevent the bar C from turningl on its pin, I provide said bar with lugs f, which project downwardly on each side ot' the bracket-arm.
The coat-supporting bar is designed to be detached from the body or main portion ot' the hook for transportation, and to be attached to the bracket-arm by merely crowding` down into place. The complete device in the form shown is then ready for use.
IVhile I always prefer to provide the device with the special arm l for a hat-hook, it is evident that the construction of the other parts will remain the saine wheiher or not said arm is present.
I am 'aware that a prior patent shows and describes a revolving' coat-torm, which consists oi' a bracket-arm and a eoatsnppoliing` bar swiveled thereon andprevented from falling oit' by a screw and nut. Such a device is hereby disclaimed.
I claim as my inventionrlhe herein-described coat and hat hook, consisting, essentially, of the main or body portion having' the bracket-arm c, perforated vertically, and the attachable and detachable coat-supportinp` bar having` the pin or tenon (l, and theside lues, f, vfitted to said bracketarm, substantially as described, and for the purpose specified.
IIERSCHEL B. BAKER.
