Description
UNITED STATES Patented June 9, 1903.
PATENT OFFICE.
LUOINDA JANE WILSON, OFLA TONQAND. CHARLES WILLIAM WILSON, or LINDEN, OKLAHOMA TERRITORY.
COTTON-PICKING SACK OR RECEPTACLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent; No. 730,325, dated June 9, 1903. Application filed January 2'7, 1903. Serial No 140,820. (No model.)
fication, reference being made therein to the accompanying drawing. Y
This invention relates to the improvements in cotton-picking sacks or receptacles to receive the bolls; and it consists in the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, all as will be hereinafter fully described.
The annexed drawing, to which reference is made, fully illustrates our invention, in which the figure represent-s a perspective view of our device.
Referring by letter to the accompanying drawing, A designates a sack which is constructed with a reinforcing-piece a at its lower portion and is provided at its open end with D-shaped rings 10, which are firmly secured to the sack on both sides of the opening by straps b, which are passed through the rings and are then stitched or rivetedlto the sack. A ring 0 is secured to the lower end of the sack, by which the sack may be suspended when being weighed with its contents of cotton.
B designates a belt which is adapted to pass around the operators waist and at the same time is provided with a buckle cl, that engages the end 6 in buckling the belt on.
This belt is provided in frontwithhooks f, which maybe the ordinarysnap-h'ook, and
the same is secured to the belt by the short straps g, and secured to the belt at the ends it is'ashoulder-strap O, that is provided with a pad t,.permanently secured thereto.
when the harness, comprising thebelt and the shoulder-strap, is adjusted to the person in picking cotton the weight of the sack is supported by the padded strap and is assist- Th us ed by the belt. At the same time the pad relieves the operator from pressure of the weight, and the rings being on opposite sides of the mouth of the sack the sack can be reversed when Worn on one side and the opposite side hung to the hooks, and when the sack is filled with cotton the same can be detached and another empty sack substituted therefor without interfering with the work of the picking. The result is that our device can be used for other purposes than picking cotton, and the ring 0 in the bottom will be found convenient to suspend the filled sack for Weighing its contents.
The device as herein shown and described is durable as well as cheap to manufacture.
Havingthus described our invention, what we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- V The combination with the sackAprovided with the reinforcing-piece 0, and D-shaped rings ksecured to the straps b stitched to the upper edge of the sack, of the belt provided with the buckle d shoulder-strap O, secured at each end It to said belt, the pad 1 stitched to the central portion of the-back-strap and the hooks f and straps g secured to one another, the latter stitched to the lower edge of the front portion of the belt, said hooks adapted to engage the D-shaped rings, wherebythe sack is suspended from said belt, all constructed and arranged as shown and described.
In testimony whereof we have signed our names to this specification in the presence of the subscribing witnesses.
LUCINDA JANE WILSON. CHARLES WILLIAM WILSON.
