JACOB otivnii BIBLER, on attention, KAivsAs;

LUGGAGE-memes.-

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 741,098, dated October 13, 1903.

Application filed as 12, 1903.

To all. whom. it mty concern.-

Be it known that I, JACOB OLIVER BIBLER, a citizen of the United 'States, residing at Florence, in the county of Marion and State of Kansas, have invented a new and useful Luggage-Carrier, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to an improved luggage-carrieror harness adapted to assist porters, traveling men, and other persons in carrying heavy articles-such as grips, baskets, ISEC.-ftl1d has for its object to provide a simple, inexpensive, and efflcientdevice of this character by means of which the weight of the grip or other article will be evenly distributed on the arms, back, and shoulders of the bearer. 7

A further object of the invention is to provide a harness adapted to be worn beneath the coat, the supporting-straps thereof, extending through the sleeves of the coat, being provided with means for supporting the grip or other article, and, further, to provide a harness which may be quickly and readily ad- 3' usted to fit persons of different size or build.

The invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claims hereto appended, it being understood that various changes in form, proportion, and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention."

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the harness applied. Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the harness detached. Fig. 3 is a detail perspectiv view of the supporting-hooks.

Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding partsin all the figures of the drawings.

shortened to lit the individual wearer. 'Fas-' toned in any suitable manner to the rings 3 are supporting-loops 4:, consisting of straps 1 designates the harness, which may be Serial No. 166,820. (No modelt) 5 and 6, connected at their lower ends in any suitable manner, as shown at 6, the strap 5 being somewhat'longer than the strap 6 to permit the same to pass over the shoulder of the wearer and equally distribute the weight of the grip or other article being carried. The end of the strap 5 passes through a ring or loop 7 and extends upwardly, being provided with a buckle 8,.by means of which the length of said supporting strap is adjusted. De tachahly secured to the rings or loops 7 are snap-hooks 9, to the eyes 10 of which are pivoted depending hookslO', adapted to engage the handle of the grip or other article and support the same While being carried.

In operation the coat is removed and the arms passed through, the loops a, the strap 2 and rings dlying'transversely across the back, and the straps 5 passing over the shoulders. The hooks 10 are then grasped in the hand and the coat put on in the usual manner, the loops extending through the sleeveopenings and the hooks 10 projecting a short distance below the end of the sleeve and in position to engage the handle of the grip or other article to be supported, as clearly shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings.

A single grip, basket, or other article may be easily carried on either side by shortening the strap 5 ofthe supporting-loop, thereby taking the Weight olf the arm and placing it on theshoulderjas will be readily understood. From the foregoing description it will be seen that I have provided an extremely simple and inexpensive luggage-carrier which may be worn beneath the coat with very little discomfort to the wearer and by means of which heavy. grips and other articles may be easily carried from place to place, the weight thereof being equally distributed on the arms, shoulders, and back of the bearer.

Having thus described the invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,is- I 1. In a luggage-carrier, a harness consisting of a back strap, shoulder-strapssecured thereto, supporting hooks carried by; the shoulder-straps,and intermediate hooks forming a detachable connection between the supportingehooks and the shoulder-straps.

2. In a luggage-carrier, a harness consisting of an adjustable back-strap, adjustable hooks carried by the terminal loops, and intermediate snap-hooks forming a detachable connection between the terminal loops and the supporting-hooks.

In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of tWo witnesses.

JACOB OLIVER BIBLER.
