lRONlNG- BOARD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 723,527, dated March 24, 1903. Application filed May 8, 1902 Serial No. 106,388. (No model.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY J. HINDERLITER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mo- Williams, in the county of Armstrong, State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ironing-Boards; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to ironing-boards; and it has for its object to provide a board which maybe easily and quickly attached to the edge of a table or other similar support and which may be easily adjusted to suit supports of different heights, other objects and advantages of the invention being understood from the following description.
In the drawings forming a portion of this specification, and in which like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in both views, Figure l is a vertical section taken longitudinally through the board and showing it engaged with the edge of a table. Fig. 2 is a bottom perspective view of the board with its legin folded position and detached from the table. Referring now to the drawings, the present board comprises thebody 5, which is tapered in the direction of its free end after the usual manner of ironing-boards, the opposite end havingaslot-6extending longitudinallythereof and resulting in the formation of arms '7 and 8.
On the under face of the body 5 and at opposite sides of the slot 6 are the blocks 9 and 10, from the lower faces of which lead areshaped slots 11, which range upwardly and away from the slotted end of the body. The inner ends of the slots 11 form bearings for the pivot-pin 12 of a leg l3,which is of curved form and one end of which lies in the slot 6 and terminates in a laterally-projecting jaw 14, which when the opposite end of the leg is swung downwardly from the" body 5 rises above the upper face of the body, as shown in Fig. 1. The end of the leg 13 opposite to the jaw 14 is bifurcated to form feet 15 and 16, which lie divergently. When the board is not in use, the leg is folded to lie against the under face thereof, as shown in Fig. 2, and when the board is to be used the leg is swung downwardly to raise the jaw 14 above the upper surface of the table and the jaw is adjusted over the edge of a table or other suitable support, while the arms '7 and 8 are engaged against the under face of the table. The weight of the outer end of the body 5 insures the proper gripping action of the jaw and arms to hold the board in position.
To permit of adjustment of the parts to engage tables of different heights and thicknesses, the upper face of the leg 13 may have a series of slots 17, in any one of which the pivot-pin 12 may be engaged to hold the jaw 14 at different elevations above the upper face of the table, the presssure of the parts in use acting to hold the pivot-pin in engaged position.
It will be understood that in practice other modifications may be made and that any suitable materials or proportions may be used without departing from the spirit of the invention, and it will be seen that with the construction shown a quick adjustment of the parts is permitted, while the leg may be easily and quickly removed when it is desired to use the board without the leg.
What is claimed is An ironing-board having a slotted end and resultant spaced arms, ears at opposite sides of the slot having slots extending upwardly from their underfaces and a leg having a hooked end disposed in.the slot of the body and having slots in its upper face, and a pivotpin removably engaged in the slots of the leg and ears and on which the leg is movable to project the hook above the upper face of the I body.
, In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
' HENRY J. HINDERLITER. Witnesses:
JOHN RARICH, M. E. FOSTER.
