A. A. POOL. IRONING BOARD.
No. 603,831. Patented May 10, 1898.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALMA A. POOL, OF WAUKESI-IA, WISCONSIN.
lRONlNG-BOARD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 603,831, dated May 10, 1898.
Application filed September 20, 1897. Serial No. 652,268. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ALMA A. POOL, of Waukesha, in the county of Waukesha and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Ironing-Boards, of which the following is a description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which are a part of this specification.
different unlaundered portions of the article to proper position for ironing.
The device also by reason of its hinged twopart construction provides two different ironing-boards, either of which may be conveniently used, and, if desired, one of said boards may be of a different width than the other, so that the respective boards may accommodate different kinds of articles to be ironed.
With the above primary objects in view the invention consists of the devices and parts or their equivalents, as hereinafter more fully set forth and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a plan View of my invention. Fig. 2 is a side elevation. ing the upper board thrown upwardly on its hinge, and Fig. 4 is an end view.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 5 indicates one of the ironing-boards. At one end and upon the upper side thereof this board has hinged thereto at the point 6 a leg or standard 7. The numeral 8 indicates the other ironing-board, which in the position of parts shown in the drawings is uppermost with respect to the board 5 and which at one end is formed or provided on its under side with a rigid depending leg 9, the lower end of said leg being hinged at the point 10 to the corresponding end of the lower board 5. The opposite end of the board 8 is provided upon its'under side with a depending lug 11, which when the hinged leg 7 is turned upwardly to an upright position and the upper board is swung downwardly is adapted to fit Fig. 3 is a side elevation show in front of the upper end of said leg 7, as clearly shown in Fig. 2.
As shown in the drawings, the board 5 is considerably wider than the board 8. This adapts the board 5 more especially for ladies shirt-waists and similar articles, while the narrower board 8 is thereby more especially adapted for Waist-sleeves, shirt-sleeves, and the like. While I prefer to make the board 5 of increased width, yet I do not wish to be understood as restricting myself to that particular constructiomas the invention also contemplates making both boards of like width and shape, if desired.
In the use of my invention if the parts are in position shown in the drawings and it is desired to adjust a sleeve to the board 8-all that is necessary to be done is simply to swing the board 8 upwardly and pass the sleeve onto the board. Said board is then swung downwardly and the lug 11 brought in front of the upper end of the leg 7. It is obvious that the ironing can then be easily accomplished and the sleeve turned to diiferent positions as the ironing progresses. After the ironing is completed all that is required is to simply elevate the board 8 and slip the article off.
If it is desired to utilize the board 5, the device is inverted and said board thrown up on the hinge 10 and the leg 7 straightened out on its hinge-joint. No impediment is then offered to the placing of the article onto the board.
What I claim as my invention is In an improved ironing device, the combination, of two longitudinallyarranged one end toand extending from, one. of the boards, and hinged at its opposite endto the other board. I
In testimony whereof I affix my'signature in presence of two witnesses.
ALMA A. POOL.
