No. 200,584. Patented Feb. 19,1878.
ATTORNEYS -PETERS, FHOTO-LITMOGRAPHER, WASHINGNN. D. C.
UNITED- STATES, PATENT OFFICE.
SIDNEY O. TERRY, OF AUGUSTA, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF HIS RIGHT TO L. J. BROWN, OF SAME PLACE. I
IMPROVEMENT IN lRONlNG-TABLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 200,584, dated February 19, 1878; application filed January 16, 1878.
To all whom it may concern: 7
Be it known that I, SIDNEY O. TERRY, of Augusta, in the county of Kalamazoo, and in the State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ironing- Boards and do hereby declare that the followin g is a full, clear, and exact description there of, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of an ironing table, as will be hereinafter more fully-set forth.
. board, of any suitable form and dimensions, provided on its under side with two cross-bars or cleats, B B. The cross-bar B is a suitable distance from the inner end of the board, and the cross-bar B at or near the center thereof. From the center of the cross-bar B projects downward a bolt, b, which passes through a slightly-elongated hole near one end of a spring-lever, O, and a nut, a, is screwed on the end of the bolt. The rear end of the lever 0 projects a suitable distance beyond the crossbar B, to form the clamping-jaw C, while the inner extends under the cross-bar B. This end of the lever is cut to form a spring, and has a shoulder, 0, formed thereon.
D D are two legs, connected at their up er ends by a cross-bar, D which is hinged tovrthe under side of the board Aat such a point that when the legs are thrown down for use they rest against the edge of the cross-bar B, and
when not in use they fold toward the rear end of the board. To the legs D D is also secured a bar, D and the two bars D and D are connected by two cleats, d d, between which the inner end of the lever passes, said cleats form mg a guide for the same.
The ironing-board is clamped to a table-top, E, in the following manner: The rear end of the board A is placed on said top, while the rear end of the lever 0 passes underthe same. By now turning down the legs D D the top cross-bar D throws down the inner end of the lever, causing the outer or rear end thereof to bind or clamp against the table-top, and the shoulder a on the inner end of the lever will bear against the lower cross-bar D On top of the board A, at the rear end, is fastened an eye, h, for the attachment of a press-board, E. This board has a foot, I, as shown, and in its heel a hook, i, which is to engage with the eye h. By this means the press-board can be turned and used in any direction, and be easily detached when not needed.
Having thus fully described my invention, I
what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In combination with an ironing-board, A, the cross-bar B, the hinged legs D D, with cross-bars D and D and cleats d d, and the spring-lever G,pivoted at b,with its outer end extended to form the clamping-jaw 0, all constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth. I i
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 10th day of December, 1877.
. SIDNEY U. TERRY. Witnesses:
