4Pzaoented May 9, 1876.
N4 PETERS. PHO
UNITED STATES JOSEPH RAYNER, OF PIQUA, OHIO, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF HIS RIGHT '.IO` I PATENT OEEICE.
JOHN BAINS, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN FOLDING IRONING-BOARDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 177,077, dated May 9, 1876; application filed,l
f March e, 1876.
To all lwhom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH RAYNEE, of the city of Piqua, in the county of Miami and State of Ohio, have invented a new and Improved Ironing-Board and Folding Stand; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making partof this specication, in which- Figure l is a perspective view when open and attached toa table or other article. Fig. 2 is a perspective view when closed or folded up. Fig. 3 is a side View.
Thev nature of my said invention consists in a combination and arrangement of devices hereinafter described, for the purpose of facilitating the work of domestic ironing, by quickly, easily, and irmly attaching the ironing-board to any article desired, and supporting it in position, so that the legs will not interfere with any garment placed upon it in the operation of ironing.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding p arts in all the views.
To enable others skilled in the art to which my invention pertains to make and use the same, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
To a board of suitable size I attach clamp D by the set-screws G passing' through the board A and cleat H. Clamp D is operated by the leg B, vhaving a rounded` end, pivoted in I said clamp, opening vand closing the same. The brace C is connected with the leg B and the socket-plate E, in which it"'rests, by the stirrup F.
In operating said board I adjust clamp D to the desired Width by set-screws G; then drop the supports, and push the bracev G to its place in the socket E, which firmly holds the board in its place.
What I cla-im as my invention, to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. An ironing-board having a clamping-jaw hinged to a bar attached to 011e end of said board, and operated by the hinged'leg B, having a rounded end, to which the clamp is pivoted, said leg acting as an eccentric, constructed tol bear against the under surface ot' the table, to open and close said jaws, in the manner shown.
2. The combination, with the ironing-board,
and desire pivoted with the socket-plate E, of the brace l C and stirrup F, as shown and set forth.
3. The combination, with the board A, of the hinged leg B, clamp D, hinged to bar H, the brace C, stirrup F, and socket-plate E.
