UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN \V. BOWVEN, OF JACKSONVILLE, ILLINOIS.
ADJUSTABLE FOLDING IRONING-TABL E.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 433,712, dated August 5, 1890. Application filed August 12, 1889. Serial No. 320,543- (No modeh) To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN IV. BOWEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jacksonville, in the county of Morgan and State of Illinois, have in vented certain new and useful Improvements in lroning'lables, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in folding ironing-tables; and it consists in certain novel features hereinafter described and claimed.
In the annexed drawings, Figure l is a side view of my improved device, the folded position of the several parts being indicated by dotted lines. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the device with the ironing-board or table-top removed, and Fig. 3 is a plan View of the entire device.
Referring to the drawings by letter, A designates the table-top or ironing-board, which is supported by the legs B B, and has one end hinged thereto, as shown at C, so that itmay be easily raised and lowered, as will be readily understood by reference to the dotted lines in Fig. 1. The legs B B are connected in pairs at their upper ends by the cross-bars F G, and the pairs of legs are connected by the braces or stays D E. The central stay E has its opposite ends pivoted to the crossbars E G, while the stays D have their opposite ends pivoted to the legs B B. The stays or braces are inclined reversely, so that when one pair of legs is swung up against the under side of the ironing board or table the other pair of legs will be caused to swing to ward the first-mentioned legs and against the table-top, as will be readily understood upon reference to Fig. 1. The ironing-board can thus be adjusted to any desired height,
and it is held in its adjusted position by the rods II H, which have their lower ends pivoted to the legs and the braces D, and their upper ends pivoted to a bolt K, which is adapted to slide along the longitudinal slot 0 in the central stay or brace E, and be secured at the proper point of the same by the thumb-nut P. In practice a stretcher is employed to sel cure the article being ironed and hold it smoothlyontheironing-board. This'stretcher is shown in Fig. 3, and consists of the side bars M M, adapted to bear against the sides of the ironing-board, the spring N, connecting the ends of said bars and holding them against the ironing-board, and the cross-bar L, connectingthe opposite ends of said bars and adapted to rest upon the ironing-board. From the foregoing description it will be seen that I have provided a very simple and efficient ironing-table, which can be readily adjusted to any desired height, which Will be firmly supported when in use, and which can use.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-
In a foldingironing-table, the combination of the supportinglegs B B, the braces D E, pivotally connected to said legs, the central brace E, having a longitudinal slot, the bolt sliding in the said slot, and the rods H H, pivoted attheir upper ends to said bolt and at their lower ends to the legs, and the braces D D, as set forth.
JOHN WV. BOWEN.
