6. F. SH'AW.
Supports for Wash-Tubs.
Patented Oct. 7, I873.
INVENTOR UNITED STATES PATENT QFFICE.
GEORGE F. SHAW, OF WEST BOXBURY, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN SUPPORTS FOR WASH-TUBS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 143,469, dated October 7, 1873 application filed February 19, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE F. S AW, of West Roxbury, county of Norfolk and State v of Massachusetts, have invented an Improved Support for Wash-Tubs, of which the following is a specification:
The nature of my invention consists in so connecting and arranging three bars, one of which has a stop on it, that they, when extended, will form a horse or support for a washtub, and when not in use may be folded so as to be very portable and to occupy but little space.
Figure 1 shows my invention as it appears when extended for use. Fig. 2 shows the same when folded.
Let A A B B O 0 represent the three bars, which may be made as shown, or of any desired style and size. The bar A A is hinged to the bar G C by the pin or bolt D, and the bar B B is hinged to the bar 0 G by the pin or bolt E. The bolt E passes through G G at a point above the bolt D equal in distance from D to the thickness of the leg B B, so that the legs may open sufficiently to form right angles with each other, and then check mutually and become self-supporting. The leg A A has a stop or detent, H, made fast to it by any suitable device. If preferable, the stop H may be made adjustable, and thus limit the extension of the bars or legs, and also add to the strength of the device.
The utility of this device is so apparent as not to require explanation. It will hold any round vessel like a tub, and having but three legs will set steadily on any floor, or the ground, even.
I claim as my invention The combination of the bars A A E B O O, with each other and the detent H, substantially as described, andfor the purpose set forth.
GEORGE F. SHAW.
